Has anyone swapped out the sear on a 9mm PC Shield 1.0? I like the trigger on my PC and was wondering if the Apex would be an improvement over the factory’s.
Thanks for any input!

I can't answer your question as I haven't swapped out the S&W sear for the Apex yet and I don't have a PC version anyway. I do have a Shield 1.0 which I installed an Apex Striker Block. My question is...Was the PC sear improved over the standard sear in the 1.0, or are they the same? Maybe this video will help shed some light on your question [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zee6Oriz6Lw[/ame] (click on "Watch this video on YouTube" and it will play)

I have. Several. But the sear is only part of improvements to make while apart. Judicious polishing and Apex sear block all contribute to the noticeable improvement. Watch Apex vids....

If you keep the stock springs and only swap out the sear, the pull may be too light for self-defense purposes. Fine for range and a woods gun, lighter than what I would consider for concealed carry.

Absolutely correct. I ended up putting in a heavier trigger spring.

I had it done earlier this week. For me it's hard to tell while dry firing, but it appears to have helped with smoothness. It did NOT lighten the trigger pull, 5.5 lbs before and after. I'd like 4 lbs as a carry / range gun like my others.
Hope to shoot it tomorrow, which will be the real test.

I may just try polishing the original and see if that improves it...I already installed an Apex Striker Block...it helped on my 1.0

I swapped out the sear and the striker block on my 2.0 shield 9mm EDC. And you're right the pull is much lighter than it was. But I am curious as to why that would make it not ideal for concealed carry? I'm not saying I disagree, in fact, when I first shot it I thought the same thing. Did it go to far? But I couldn't come up with a good reason why that was bad thing? Just curious as to your reasoning as to why a light pull is not conducive to concealed carry? I should note, I do have a safety.

It's the whole "hair trigger" theory. A 5 lbs pull is more safe than a 3.5 lbs especially for re-holstering. It's almost like you are pre-meditating a shooting by lightening your trigger. Crazy times.

You’re not wrong, but too heavy a pull and your average shooter is likely to be less accurate. If that wasn’t true then Glock would only use NY triggers.

To me it has more to do with the state a person is in at the time a situation now dictates use of deadly force. Very similar, if not the same as, buck fever for those that hunt. Light enough for the average person to be accurate. Heavy enough to help circumvent the flow of adrenaline and prevent an accidental and/or premature discharge. Also have to consider possible legal ramifications as well.

Good points. I'm trying to look at this objectively. And I must point out that I have no formal training to fallback on. My feeling is, if you are in my sight picture, and my finger is on the trigger, and my safety is off.....you are definitely doing something wrong. I am not a hot head type of person, it would take extraordinary circumstances for all that to happen.

I'm just going to keep training with my Apex modified Shield. I haven't put enough rounds through it to really come to a conclusion that I am totally comfortable with. I think I am also going to have the trigger pull measured and see exactly where it stands. I may very well try a heavier spring.

The sear alone lightens the trigger a little. I’d do the whole kit, not just the sear, for best results.

It shot well. We were in a little bit of a hurry so I had to rush more than I wanted. So far the pull appears to be smoother. Just wish it was a pound lighter.

I did a bunch of testing with the Apex two dot sear in my Shield 1.0 - 9. With just the Apex sear and an action clean up, the pull was too light 4.5lbs dry and 4lbs or under with moly on the sear. I talked to Apex and they suggested purchasing the carry spring kit. Apex uses both a heavier sear spring (to prevent sear bounce because of its geometry) and a heavier trigger spring with their sear to make the take up pull heavier and more even over the whole pull length. You will get a smooth even pull with a crisp brake between 5 - 5.5lbs. The Apex Duty Carry kit (100-076) you can find on ebay for the Gen1 9/40. The only hard part of installing the kit is the USB installation requires the rear sight removed, which I did at the same time with a new set of Trijicon HDs. My current setup is the M&P Pro OEM sear with the stock green sear spring, with an Apex USB and a Apex trigger spring. The M&P Pro sear doesn't require a heavier sear spring and is the same one used in Performance Center rigs.
