Good afternoon. I have had a S&W M&P 9c for several years. It is the version without the safety and I use it for home defense and carry sometimes. I've always thought the trigger could be much better but just recently decided to try and of something about it. Been reading a lot on the Apex Trigger and the more I read and search here the more confused I get. I'm not sure what actual package to get (trigger or full kit, etc.). I am not going to try and do it myself, but will find a local gunsmith, but wanted your all's advice on what actual trigger I need. I don't want the trigger pull to be extremely light as it doesn't have a safety, but would love to get rid of the long pull and reset. It just seems very gritty as others have said here. I've tried reading but can't find anything that would educate me on the different trigger options for this. Any recommendations? Much appreciated. Steve

How much have you shot it? The reason I ask is my M&Ps were pretty gritty out of the box but smoothed out after shooting. The USB is the only part of APEX that usually helps the grit, which is typically mostly the sb and trigger linkage.
Especially if you don't shoot it much, I'd suggest staying away from the competition APEX, maybe put in the duty kit, and practice action pistol games. It isn't really a target gun and trying to shoot small groups slowfire is not the best practice for defense.
1. Hold the gun firmly
2. Point it at the target (start close) maybe using a paper plate "bullseye" Don't waste time "precision aiming"
3. Press the trigger straight back without moving the gun
4. When that gets boring, back up or speed up

Me too. Bought one for a back up carry option, but the trigger stinks compared to other guns I have. I'm gonna follow here. Thanks for asking.

Thanks; I've shot maybe 1,000 rounds total with this gun. I really like this gun and it's a great size for carry. I'm fairly accurate with it, just always thought the trigger could be better. I've read so much about the Apex that I thought it might be worth it, but it's confusing to me for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

Apex Trigger for M&P 9c

I had the apex duty carry kit with the polymer curved enhanced trigger on mine and it was perfect for any application trigger was bit lighter not too much but still with a nice clean break and reset also reduced take up on over travel.

I did the home polishing and installed an Apex duty/carry spring. The spring makes the whole trigger pull a little heavier and then the polishing makes the the final pull a little lighter and a lot smoother. The final pull may measure about the same or a little heavier than you have now, but it will be smoother, so it feels lighter than it measures. For not wanting to mess w/ it yourself, I recommend their complete duty/carry kit so you get about the same I have but w/all the Apex parts.

I would also suggest that you think about getting the new 2.0 compact which to me is a better size than the original with a much improved trigger out of the box. Then look at the new Apex Flatty trigger that just came out for the M+P 2.0. I have read that it is just the best! you could sell or trade the old one in on one.

I use my Shield 9 as a carry . The weight to me is just right as a defensive pistol and gawd forbid has a thumb safety too . In contrast I have a PPQ and the trigger is scary light . I have accidentally doubled tapped it more than once at the range . People have da/sa defensive guns because the da pull is heavy . Yeah I hear the safety is in your brain and finger tell that to people that shoot them selves with Glocks and other way to light carry guns .

Hello. Although I had (past tense) a 1.0 version of the 9 C model, I traded it off to get a new better-sized and improved 2.0 9 C. Really like the feel; however, NO WAY (emphasis added) would I spend another $175 to $250 to "improve" the factory trigger by buying and installing an aftermarket trigger kit like Apex. What a waste! I would either live with what I bought or choose another gun with an ageeable unit. I am simply not convinced that the "average" shooter (like me) gains a 30 to 50% performance advantage over the base purchase price of the pistol by fiddling with an aftermarket kit. But, hey, that's me...others have more $$$ to burn. Go for what you like. Regards, Ed

Apex duty carry trigger kit was the best thing I ever did with my m&p 9c. Although I did trade it off for something else I've been wanting for years now. I will be going back to an m&p and it WILL have the same trigger kit.

Apex Has the Parts

Different Apex parts produce different results. They are real specialists at what they do.

An Apex sear moves the take up while shortening the approach to the wall. The wall is a crisp, predictable let off with short travel and a resulting short reset. This will give you better and potentially faster shooting.

If you polish your trigger bar loop where it engages the sear and the striker safety block you will smooth the pull and it will feel a little lighter.

If you replace the OEM Striker Safety Block with the better shaped and smoother Apex USB you will have smoother pull too.

Now, if you also replace the OEM trigger and trigger return spring in the Duty Carry Kit, you will get all the above advantages with a better shaped and designed trigger that completes the system. The trigger return spring controls the weight of the trigger pull. Most people prefer about 5-5.5# for carry, and there's a spring for that.

For an experienced user the Apex DCKit is a very noticeable upgrade in trigger characteristics over even a good OEM trigger. For an average user it may not help with increased accuracy or speed. Better equipment will help you progress faster and better if you are a serious shooter.

The newer M&P triggers are much improved over previous models, but they are still a mass manufactured set of parts hurriedly thrown into the gun without tuning, so some are better than others. Over time with hundreds of dry or live fires they slowly lose their grittiness and become smoother. That to me is aggravating. I want my best tigger now, not maybe in a thousand rounds.

I go Apex and get a great trigger, always better than even a good factory trigger, right away.
