APEX Trigger Question

I'm getting ready to click BUY IT NOW on eBay for this Apex DCAEK Trigger Kit for my M&P 45...Only question I have is will this kit help out with all the take-up? I know it makes the actual snap of the trigger crisper and better etc. I just hate all the sloppy gritty take-up before I get to the trigger break. Hope you guys can help me out. Thanks

To get rid of the take up, you need to put the Forward Set Sear and Trigger in. The DCAEK will not do anything to change trigger travel.

That price is about as low as you'll find. I got one a couple weeks ago for around 82 for my 45c. The kit itself won't help with shortening the take up too much. It will smooth it up a lot with the new striker block tho. Definitely worth the $ in my opinion. Click buy now and you won't regret it.

The DCAEK kit will smooth out and lighten the trigger pull. To remove most of the pre travel, like stated above, the FSS kit does a wonderful job on that. What I did with my carry guns, is I installed the DCAEK kit and then installed a new trigger. The new Apex trigger reduced the take up by about 30%. For us (the darling husband and I) this is a great set up for our carry guns. For our competition guns, FSS kits all the way.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I just ordered the APEX M&P Polymer Forward Set Sear and Trigger Kit. Seems to be exactly what I need to take care of the take up and better the trigger functions. Can't wait to install it.

Let us know how it turns out for you. I haven't been so happy with a weapon mod since my first 10-22 auto bolt release. My pull went from over 8 to just under 5. Eliminated most of the take up and over travel. Randy is on my Christmas card list! Now shoots even with my wife's SR1911.

I believe if you use the silver trigger return spring, you'll end up with ~4lbs. The green spring yields 5-5.5lbs.

Yea I did use the SILVER spring. It definately feels better than the factory did, but I guess I thought it woulda been a little less pull. Oh well. It's all good though. Thanks guys/girls

A decent bench vise, a flat nose punch like the ones Dawson sells for sight work if you don't have/use a pusher and the APEX armorer's block make this something you could do ten a day if you wanted to. Add a dremel or like tool with some good polishing compound and decent soft tips and you can touch up the extras.

Used this video (fast forwarded some parts) and bought a good brass punch set...I personally didn't need a vise...Oh yea and you're gonna need a 1/16" allen wrench to remove rear sight.

The grit is the result of the striker block being engaged. The factory striker block has a steep angle to it. The Apex striker block is much more smoothed out which eliminates the grit you are talking about.

The FSS trigger kit will cause the trigger to break earlier. There is still some take up, but it isn't as long a pull as the standard D/CAEK with AEK trigger.

The cheapest I've seen this exact kit on Amazon for was $120.00 If you got it for under $80 that's not the complete trigger kit I installed.

I attempted to install the Apex FSS and trigger kit in my full-size M&P 9mm with thumb safety. Mine was made with the "old style" sear housing block (manufactured prior to late 2010), so I had to order the updated block with the larger diameter sear spring and plunger. First, I called Smith and Wesson to make sure it would be compatible with the thumb safety. I was told that the new housing block, part number 277640000, was compatible with the thumb safety. Unfortunately, I was misinformed; it is NOT compatible with the thumb safety.

Has anyone attempted to modify their sear housing block to accept the larger diameter sear spring and plunger? I plan to check with Apex to see if they offer that service but I'm not holding my breath.
