Apex trigger SD40VE review

Just came in from the range, blew through 300 rounds without a single issue. The new Apex trigger is exactly what this gun needed. Best $20 I have ever spent on a firearm. My initial percentage at home was just about dead on. You'll get a 33% better trigger in the SD40VE with the Apex install. Mine is about 50% better due to the polishing in combination with the trigger. I'm guessing my trigger to be in the 6 lb range which is perfect for me.
Overall, I give the Apex Trigger Kit a two thumbs up for value and operation. I will buy it again if I ever buy another SD pistol and there is a large chance that I may. The gun is such a value, the Apex is also a great value making the two a perfect meld. Ill report back again in the 3-5000 round range.

DR

Congratulations on your successful range trip. Another happy customer for S&W and Apex.

I am running the Apex duty/carry in my M&P 40 and the FSS with a 3.5 pound spring in my 9mm. With both, I got a dremel and polished the trigger bar where it comes in contact with the plunger and the sear. Everything was already smoother for me before doing that, but that just made it better.

One thought, too, that I got from a special forces shooting instructor friend is to just remove the plunger. I do not feel comfortable doing that but that is how he runs his M&P.

I installed my Apex kit with the same video--the only part to pay real close attention to is putting the pin back--and hooking the spring and the slide release is a little tedious.
I've put 50 rounds through since the install--and no problems thus far! It made quite a bit of a difference!

i used dry graphite on the striker and tubing as mentiioned in another thread becuase this was where the grittyness of my gun was located. it was the striker catching when compressing and the dry lubed helped alot. biut i clean it and re lube it every time i use the gun which i suggest if you also try this. i also have dont polishing and the apex spring and m&p aek.
i havent had any light strikes and primers seem to be hit just like before but im thinking of adding the galloway sear spring for a even lighter trigger

What contact points did you polish and what did you polish them with?

First you need to know that polishing will void your warranty!!!

IMO it's worth it. You should polish the trigger bar, striker block and the surfaces on the sear that contact the trigger bar. Then hope nothing happens to your gun before S&W releases parts for sale.

My SD40VE has the Apex Spring Kit and I agree with everything you said. However, I was at the range this morning and I experienced something strange. My pistol went "click" but there was no "bang". I ejected the round and found no visible mark on the primer. This happened 4 times out of the 150 rounds that I brought to the range.

Could it be that the striker block did not disengage during my misfires? Did my new Apex spring kit have anything to do with it? I am going back to the range next week with a different brand of ammo just to see if I can figure out what's going on.

Was reading up on this mod since I just ordered it for my Sigma40. This link may point to the click no bang problem cause and solution.

Here is an excerpt with the pertinent info:
"I did however run into an unforeseen problem during this initial testing of the trigger – I experienced about two “failures to fire” (click-no-bangs). This surprised me given the rock-solid reputation that both the M&P and Apex components have for reliability. So I inquired with the M&P online community about the issue, and determined that at some point earlier this year S&W updated the M&P sear block with the larger sear plunger, and that the smaller sear plunger is notorious for not catching the striker with the FSS trigger installed. In an attempt to determine the age of my M&P 9c, I got out my the box it came in, and checked the information written on the envelope which contained the empty shell casing from the test round fired at the factory. Sure enough, it was from Oct. of 2010, which means my pistol had the smaller sear plunger. Fortunately, Brownell’s carries the updated sear and plunger ( Item number 940000958) and I order one. Once installed, I expect that I won’t experience any more failures."

I installed the trigger kits in my SW9VE and SW40VE. They do make the pistols a bit more refined. It didn't take me 45 minutes to install them, but if I had taken more time I probably wouldn't have put the extractor plunger in backwards in the SW9VE. :-D Took me more than 45 minutes to install and then get it right.
