Finished installing an Apex sear & trigger kit in my FDE 40. Watched a couple of videos on youtube and it went very well. Very nice trigger. Now to go practice some more.... :)

Still waiting on my form 4, After 6 months ATF said 8 to 10 months now. :(

such a great trigger kit, which did you end up with?

I stuck with a 5lb spring, and Blue Line Series Curved Aluminum.

It's my EDC and has no safety so I didn't want to go lighter.

I put the Apex Duty/Carry kit in my Shield 9 and Lyman gauge shows 6#, big improvement in smoothness and travel as well.

I have been thinking about adding an Apex trigger to my Shield as I am not crazy about the factory trigger. It would sure be nice to have a lighter trigger with less travel.

I did the polymer forward set and used the 4# spring

It's about 2# lighter, shorter free travel, crisp 6# break and shorter reset. It's perfect for a carry gun.

I also have a 9 Compact with Apex FSS sear and poly trigger, has a very light 4.5# break and is way more accurate than my Shields.

I just put one in the new 9c.

It was 6.4# before
it is now 3.7#

My FS 9 is at 3.5#
and my CORE is 3.7#

All have the same Apex kit with the stock return spring.
I need to tune the CORE a bit better to get around 2.5# or less.

3.7#'s seems awfully light for a carry gun??

Not really.....not for me.
I send about 200 rounds down range a week, so I want all my triggers about the same.

Besides, help me understand why that is an issue?

Outside of getting too light due to adrenaline

It's not too light, if you're trained with it.

My 1911 I've carried for years has just barely under 3# trigger... but then I've done a lot of training and competition (read: adrenaline) with it, so I never pull the trigger when I don't mean to.

One thing I never do with a gun like that is just hand it to someone to shoot. They get a very, very clear warning about the trigger.

You want to know what's even crazier? A couple of years ago I bought a used SVI 2011 that was a police trade in (from an Ohio swat team)... and the pull was 1.5#... on a dept issued duty weapon!!

I am noticing quite a bit of difference in where the trigger sits in some of these pictures. Some are much father forward than others. I am going to get an Apex kit for my 9mm Shield, but I'm not sure which one to get. I want a different trigger and an easier, smoother pull with less pre-travel and faster reset, but I can't find anything on their site about getting different strength springs with the Shield kits, yet some of you have 6# and some of you have 5# springs? How do I know what will come with the kit? And... with this being Kansas, sometimes gloves are necessary, so which trigger will give me more room in the trigger guard? Flat or curved?

The kits come with different springs....I always use the stocker, it gives a bit less than 4#

The curved trigger will give the most room, but you are only talking a 2-3 mm difference. maybe 4...maybe.

Get the duty action kit. WITHOUT the comp. spring(s).

Thanks for the info! I definitely don't want light competition springs for my defensive pistol. It has the thumb safety, but since I'm a southpaw, it is useless and never engaged.

I got just the duty/carry spring. And then did the DIY polishing per here. I recommend you leave the re-shaping of the sear surface until you shoot it w/ the other stuff done.
S&W M&P Trigger Job
This way I get a standard distance but heavier pre-travel and a nice smooth break. Really happy w/ this in my EDC 9c.
