It's satisfying getting the rest to go your way, isn't it. A few years back I stopped all work in the facility I was in when I said in the front office, "Nearly time for the recorder at home to start taping the America's Cup final race. It's the decider with New Zealand." The front office lady and the facility boss looked at each other and said, That sounds interesting, turn on the lobby TV." Pretty soon everyone was in the front office and asking me about those fancy flying yachts, and as a bonus, the US won.

What's the big deal anyway? The world is at war, the USA is in total conflict, front page news only talks about yesterday's football game and Taylor Swift's latest excursion.
There are a lot of things we need to worry about, some of which we might even have control over. Like how we will keep the lights on in our house when everybody is forced to buy an EV. If Taylor were parachuting down with a known wardrobe malfunction I would't bother watching her either.

30 minutes to go, nothing here but overcast sky. Will watch on TV.
Here in Williamson it's been hit or miss. Right now it's mostly cloudy, but we've had times when the sun broke through. Getting close to our brief totality, but I'm expecting a phone call I'll probably miss it.

The US TV media have not surprised me. More views of the various journos and spectators than the actual eclipse. The Mexican channel are doing better. At least when they show a talking head they are in the small part of the split screen, with the big part showing the eclipse.

I've been sitting it the garage with the door open. We're in the 90% zone, peak is about 5 minutes away and the sunlight is dimming.
I've read that people have driven hundreds of miles and spent thousands of dollars to experience this event. That gave me a great moneymaking idea!

Even though I couldn't see the eclipse due to the overcast, I did experience the darkness. At least sort of. It wasn't as dark as I expected it to be, just sort of a late twilight. But it was at least dark enough for the neighbor's outside light to come on.

We've just survived the eclipse. We live about 2 miles from the zone of totality and had 99.9% coverage of the sun. Good enough for me. The photos below were taken during the 4 minute period of totality. I should have used a real camera instead of my iPhone camera because it was actually much darker than the photos show. The camera automatically adjusts for low light, providing artificial brightness. It was kind of disorienting walking around in the darkness at 1:40 pm. And the yellow half light just before and after was pretty weird, too. The next eclipse around here will not occur for over 300 years. I'll probably miss that one, so I'm glad I saw this one.

NASA apparently is following and photographing it from "far from the madding crowd" of us earthlings and will prob. get some spectacular images, although they'll miss Taylor Swift if she's there.

Lots of folks on our street were out to view it. Two families from across the street came over to partake with us as our house faces west.

It is over here and while it was interesting to watch and probably the last time I will ever have a chance to see one IMO it is heavily overhyped. IMO
For me the most interesting part was watching the songbirds go to roost and quit their singing for a while and the strange appearance of the sky.
Certainly glad I did not travel and pay extortionist rates for food and lodging.

Well, we survived. Went to the car wash just in case, so we could meet the apocalypse with a clean truck. We were 80%, loss of sunlight was barely noticeable.
At the peak moment here in NE Georgia we had the first hummingbird of the year on the feeders. Wonder if that's an omen?
Definitely not an Omen, looks more like a female Ruby Throated....

So, we pulled into the Hampton at Claremore, Oklahoma on Friday for Wanenmacher. Standing out front drinking beer and waiting for the hillbilly shuttle that passes for Uber in Claremore to head to the track and casino when a small SUV pulls up. Older couple, man starts unloading what looks to my investigator trained eye to be high end camera equipment.
Me: Y'all headed to the eclipse?
Him: We started in Texas, but it's gonna be cloudy, so we're going to Marion, Illinois.
Me: Well, just head east on this road. The numbers change, but you won't have to exit until you hit Marion. You got about 8 more hours . . .

It was calm and clear when we watched the eclipse literally from the shores of Lake Erie. We had a wonderful view of the Ring of Fire.
