My AR isn't an S&W so I figured this was the best place for my question. I've been thinking about trying a brass catcher on my rifle, a flat top Del-Ton, no optics, just iron sights.

I've seen generally two options online, a net bag or a hard case. My questions are:

Has anyone here used them or currently use one?
Any pros or cons on each type?
Any recommendations on brands for either type?

Thanks in advance

As above, works very well. You can buy extra bases that enables you to use it on other AR's. The first one that works as advertised.

I also use a caldwell AR brass catcher that attaches with velcro. I would say it is fairly inexpensive and works well, just be sure to empty it as it only attaches via one point of contact.

I also have a Caldwell unit that mounts to the top rail using a clip that allows you to slide the bag on and off. I recommend that style over the one that attaches with the Velcro strap. Either one will trap a 30-round magazine of brass. Any more than that, the brass starts bouncing back and can jam the carrier. The pouch has a zipper at the bottom to open it and dump the brass without having to remove the bag from the rifle.

Still beats the heck out of having to police your brass at the end of the range day.

I have used several types including net style bags and hard plastic and found them all to be wanting. Then I read about a brass catcher by 3BUCC and gave it a try. It will hold about 90+ rounds and works great. I've used it on my varmint gun for several years and have had no problems. I used it on a full auto shorty M16 and it functioned flawlessly. I got it from Brownell's. After using it the first time during our varmint season, my shooting friends all got them and they are also very satisfied with the brass catcher. It's the only one I would recommend.
