Are they magnified?, I should have noted in my OP, that I'm looking for magnified red dots...

Burris makes a 3x and 5x but not really a 'red dot' reticle. It's an illuminated BDC reticle. Nice optic for an AR platform, though. Your only other option would be to buy something like a 3x magnifier on a mount. Here's a pic of a Burris 3x magnifier on a LaRue Pivot mount.

Sig Sauer Romeo 5 is a good one. $120 at PSA right now with free shipping. Sorry, not magnified, but you could add a primary arms 3x magnifier for around $70.

I've used about a half a dozen Bushnell TRS-25's, if I haven't broken them by now
they're OK, used on AR-47, AR BlkOut, and M-4's

I run primary Arms micro dots on many of my firearms, including my ARs. They've been superb and haven't given me a bit of trouble in years

My son got an AR from a friend with a 3x Vortex Spitfire. It has reticle illumination in red and green. It is a good scope, both for a fast shot and an accurate one. I compared it to my ACOG and for $349 consider that a hell of a deal.

I have two of the Sightron S33-4R devices. They have 4 reticles, 1) Small Dot 4 MOA, 2)large dot 8 MOA, 3) .5 MOA Crosshair with 1MOA Dot center, 4) 2MOA dot inside a 30MOA Circle [my favorite]. Their Warranty is lifetime replacement on the spot (the retailer hands you a new item!) It uses the very common CR2032 battery. Mine has handled very heavy 45-70 recoil for 12 years! Cost is just under $200 OTD for one last year. Comes with 33mm rings, optional cantilever mount available. Second one is on AR-10 19" 308. Holds up fine!

I can hold sub 2" groups at 50 yards with high recoil 45-70 in a Guide Gun as fast as I can (5 in about 2.5 seconds) If I need a more precise sight I use a 4.5-14 or 6.5-20 scope.

What Eric said! You may wish to define your mission first, then think about getting the best value, not necessarily the cheapest optic.

I can't comment about any of the other optics mentioned here as I have no experience with them. The exception is the Aimpoint T1 and Comp M4s. They are GTG. I've run them on my work carbines since 2008 with no issues. The Comp M4s is built like a tank.

A wise sage once told me, "Buy cheap, buy twice".

.300 BLK with Vortex SPARC2 and a Vortex VMX3T Swing out 3X magnifier. Nice clear glass with the Vortex brand, taking a minute to get used to a magnifier. Only had it on one range trip so far. I think I paid $126 shipped on the red dot, and $180 on the magnifier. Thinking next time I might go with the Strike Eagle, which was what I wanted to do with this one, but talked myself out of it. Then I would have a true 1-6X scope, and a illuminated reticle in one package.

I LIKE THE 30MM RED DOT BY ULTRADOT---GREAT QUALITY, THAT WON'T BREAK THE BANK......

Muddyboot: I really don`t know much about Red Dot Sights. But I just put a HOLOSUN 403B ELITE Green Dot Reticle on my 300 BLACKOUT. I paid $ 175.00 for it. And have really enjoyed shooting it so far. It was very easy to mount and sight in. As I said I really don`t know anything about RED DOT SIGHTS. Can any of You Guys that know about them tell me if I have bought a good sight. I am really thinking hard about buying another one of them.

Depends on your budget. You specify magnifying - on the low end look at a Primary Arms or a Millett DMS-1 or 2.

On the high end - Trijicon. I recommend Trijicon.

I also recommend a throw lever for any of those is you're wanting a fast transition in magnification.

I've had a Trijicon ACOG on my 6.8, so I'm up to speed on them, I'm just not looking to spend Trijicon money at this time....

Ok, I'll throw one (or two) more ideas into the mix, just to confuse you more....lol. I know your OP stated you're looking at a RD optic, but you also mentioned that you wanted some magnification as well. So, if you don't want to go the RD + Magnifier route, you'd be looking at some type of scope with IR (illuminated reticle). I see the Millett DMS series was mentioned. A pretty decent optic for the money. I happened to get a smokin' deal on DMS 1-6x24 (BK8624). Without getting into a whole review, I'll just say that all around it works very well. It also comes in a 1-4x24.

Another real nice 1-4/1-6x24 optic for $200-$250 (depending on if it's 1-4x24 or 1-6x24), is the (believe it or not) TruGlo Omnia series (either the 1-4 or 1-6). Again, a real decent scope for the money, AND it comes with a one-piece mount, throw lever, and flip-up lens covers! I used one last week and was presently surprised and impressed with the over-all functionality and quality. In fact, I have one coming. Should be here by this Friday.

I think it would behoove you to do a little research on these scopes (Google is your friend!). You just might decide to go that route instead of just a RD optic. Good luck!

Another thing to consider when running a dot/magnifier combo. When you throw the 3X magnifier over your 4 MOA dot, your 4 MOA dot now becomes a 12 MOA dot at 100 yards through your magnifier. Doesn't make things impossible, it just takes a bit of getting used to. At least it does for me.

I work at a high end resort in Colorado where we put hundreds of folks through our various shoots each year. We use mostly AR's in the shooting program and have everything from red dots to high magnification scopes on the rifles that we use for the program. I really like the 4 or 6 power lit reticle scopes or the fixed power red or green lit Burris. We use both the 3 and the 5 power in the program and all the guests love those Burris's. I have one on my .223AR. I have shot our plates out to 500yds with that 3 power fixed reticle. It is the 332. The other reticle that we love is the Burris RT-6. Check it out as well.

I'm researching all suggestions, (a real slow process) as so many good quality RD's and scopes are out there.

Nothing beats EoTech IMO. But.....I admit that I only purchased it cuz I got a huge discount from working in firearm sales.

EoTech can't come close to touching anything from Aim Point or Trijicon. Clumsy to adjust illumination, turn on/off, known to lose zero (recall issue), bulky, so-so battery life. They are a decent optic, but there much better optic choices in that category to be considered.

I've got these on a Ruger Lite, a 15-22, and an AR build/spare. I have some high-dollar glass on other ARs, but for casual use (and the money) the Bushnells are impressive.

I'll be honest here...I'm not even sure why I'm going to do this...but here goes.

With simple red dots...I don't understand this "buy once, cry once" stance. This isn't 1985, a small, magnified red dot should run $700+. Were not talking optics here, scope with complex and differing quality build and lens construction. Were talking about a small tube that projects a red dot...this isn't top end technology here.

I didn't "buy once, cry once", I bought twice, cried twice...with
"battle proven", "mil spec", "battle ready", "same as military issue" EOTech sights, neither work now, both are out of their **** warranty period, both are less than 10 years old...combined they set me back over $1K.

My cheap primary arms sights haven't failed me once...and they're still running on the same batteries they came with. There are plenty of videos of people freezing, smashing, dropping and generally beating the snot out of them...and they keep working.

I guess if a war ever pops off and my red dot fails...perhaps I'll come on here and eat crow if I live to tell the tale. Until then, I'll get my micro red dots for $100-150 on sale instead of dropping $750 on an Aimpoint micro.
