Are 3" model 13s rare?

Traded for my Mdl. 13 about 20 years ago. I had a 2 1/2" Mdl. 19 that I just never liked and traded straight up for the Mdl. 13. He was happy and so was I. Don't know or care if that was a good deal value wise, but I have never regretted it. The Mdl. 13 is a great gun.

Wow. Thanks to you all for showing those fine 3-inch 13/65s. Makes me wish I was an FBI agent when they issued those. And the nickle one is very nice. My 65-5 is so lonely.

Back before I started my LE career I worked in a local gun shop. I acquired a BNIB 13-2 3". That was around 07/81 and SN# was 8D73xxx. Got hired and ended up selling it off...
Fast forward to a couple of years ago. Had this strange urge to visit a gun shop one Sunday morning. A shop that I try to hit a few times a year, but is about an 70 mile round trip here on Long Island. I get to the store and see on the used shelf a 13 3"! SN# was 8D33xxx, and it was in the box with papers and all, including numbered grips. Asking price was like $300. I'm ready to walk out with it but the deal was sealed when the clerk told me this was one of several guns they were selling on consignment. The owner was a retired local village police lieutenant who was suffering with some physical problems that precluded him from shooting anymore. As it turns out, I KNEW the Lt.!!! He was a regular customer of mine when I worked in the store and a guy I lost contact with more than twenty years prior. I was destined to get that pistol and give it a new home. Cleaned it up a bit, replaced the springs, put a Tyler on it and locked it in the safe. It's gonna be with me until I pass it along to my son.

Here's three that belong to my better half, LadyFed.:) They letter as ex-FBI issued revolvers as sandspur6 above mentions.

Happy New Years to you all!

Ahh Chuck, been waiting for you to show up. Those M13's look quite familiar.;)

Shown this before. I found a good price on one that was kinda modified.

Go to buckeye firearms website - they show a used M65 for $550.

The 3 inchers are very coveted. They are the perfect balance. I just picked up a 3 inch model 65-2 a coupla weeks ago. Love it.

I've sold and traded a gozillion guns, but the one I regret the most was a blue steel 3 inch model 13. It was just too purdy for me to carry. If I ever find another one...;)
Same here I got a 3'' M65, new in box.Everthing was there.

Picked this 13 up back in 05 from a retired LEO.Shots spot on!!! This is the only Smith I have that does not start with the number "4" in caliber.

That's it!
I gotta have a bobbed hammer for one of my 3" 13's!!!!!
Love that look and it would make it even better for concealed carry.
The DA is smooth anyhow!
So, who has a factroy-bobbed K-frame hammer (case-hardened)??

3" Model 13s aren't particularly rare. You don't see many for sale because those of us who have them ain't about to get rid of 'em. :D

This 13-4 pretty much goes where ever I do. ;)

My Daily Driver

Hey!
Here is my regular "daily carry" 3 incher. I have had this for years. I believe it's a SC State Police surplus. It was in well used but little fired condition and I polished out most of the big scratches, fresh screws and updated the grips . I know I gave less than $300. I shoot this S&W really well and it handles heavy magnum loads. It's one of my best!
Regards,

Grayfox, can you advise who made the holster? Is it for a 3"er? I know DeSantis still makes dedicated 3" holster, but yours looks great.

I don't have a three inch model 13. But I do have two three inch 65's, a three inch 66 and a three inch 686 -CS1. Also I have a three inch 629-1 buy Jovino with full extractor. These are my five favorite revolvers to carry. And Yes, there were less 13's made with a three inch barrel. Also , most people who buy one , most of the time keep them. These are VERY handy guns.

Sold my 13 3" in the early 90s. Replaced it recently with a 65-5 3". Either way the weapons are a GREAT ( in case Smith is listening) CCW handgun. I shoot a SWCHP-GC at a 1,000fps and it shoots point of aim.

It or my 19-5 2.5" will be the last handgun to go.

Late to the party. Regarding 3 in. model 13s'. I have had several. They seem to be found hidden in pawn and gun shops like they were nothing special.
They are highly sought after, as is any 3" K magnum.

The one keeper I have is my 13-2. Pinned and counterbored ,with bluing and quality control seldom found on early 1980s' guns.

This one ,I traded an Ek knife ,my wedding bands ,and cash for.
It now wears a set of whale ivory grips by Patrick. It won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
