Are firearm accessories like this really necessary?

A 26-Round 12 Gauge: Benelli M2 XRail - GunsAmerica Digest

A 26 round capacity 12 gauge shotgun by Benelli. At the risk of being excoriated by those who believe we should just because we can, why in the world do we need things like this in the current social and political environment?

I mean, I know I have the right to walk up to my boss and tell him I think he's a buffoon, if I think that to be true, but it isn't really in my long term best interest, now is it? That's how I feel about accessories and gimmicky stuff like this for firearms. When the gun industry advertises things like "street sweepers", Mrs. Soccer Mom just thinks all gun owners must be crazed. Bump stocks fall in to the same category in my mind.

Yeah, might be fun, once, to touch off a whole box of shells without reloading, but seriously these typed of things are just bad PR for gun owners. Thirty round magazines on an AR, I get it, that's the military configuration. easy to defend, just like the en bloc clips for the M1 Garand, that's how they were originally, so that's how so that's how I want mine.

Any one else here think the same way, or is it "I'm allowed, so to hell with what the rest of the world thinks"?

I know a situation when I'd want one:

Dodge Challenger Hellcat, 707 horsepower. Why does anyone need that much power when the speed limit's 55? Ford's F-450 pickup costs $90,000. Who needs that much truck? A gated mansion with 10 bathrooms. Who needs all that room and privacy? Kobe beef starts at $90 a pound. Who needs a steak that expensive? Bottom line is, everybody has a hot button. Whatever it might be, where do you draw the line? More important, where do you let the powers-that-be draw the line?

IMHO two separate issues.

Accessories, firearm or not, most are answers to problems we don't have. But who am I to say you should not have a separate kitchen appliance for each recipe you cook. Your choice, not mine.

Hype, wish it would ALL go away. I agree its not helpful. The labels are the offensive part. (And this too is not firearms specific.)

Remember it's ....'for the children" ...... but then again.
........... back yard pools (little kids drown every year; about 2 a day and another 10 end up in ERs) Trampolines ( about 30,000 broken bones/year almost 100,000 ER visits)................ and so on and so on!!!!!!

Celebrities with 5 or more homes around the world and private jets to get to them or a movie opening in the south of France.... lecturing the rest of us on 'global warming".

Just saw a headline on my home page........ 2 Killed and 13 wounded in shootings in Chicago "between Saturday and Sunday morning"...... not the weekend ......... 24 hours!!!!!!!

I switch between Fox Business and MSNBC in the morning; this past year I'd swear they are reporting the news from different countries.......

In this day and age do you really expect intellectual honesty? I don't anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey if they make it and you want it, go for it! If it's something you want to spend money on and can afford it, do it!
Me, I'm not interested!
That's why they make chocolate and vanilla, something for everyone! ;)

"If you build it, they will come":)

or you could buy the Kel Tec version

Kel-Tec | KSG-25

From the article:

"Why might one want such a gun, besides competition? It probably helps that RCI is based out of Wisconsin. Some places in the North have no capacity restriction when hunting snow geese, since they’re such a menace. You can take four shotguns to the field, or one Xrail. That sells itself. For a home defense gun, you could certainly do worse. I don’t think much of shotguns for this scenario, mostly because they are slower than Christmas to reload. The Xrail kind of negates that argument. Lastly, I am kind of surprised these haven’t caught on with law enforcement yet. One of the few things a 12 gauge does better than a rifle is offered less lethal options. Not only could a dedicated breacher handle an entire hotel hallway without pausing, full of ferret rounds or rubber balls, this is a one man riot stopper."

I agree with

Raljr1.

Beyond what he said as the OP, bringing up
excesses such as multiple homes or pricey
vehicles has nothing to do with our position(s)
as gun owners.

To get around the stigma of calling ARs "assault
rifles" the industry and some gun stores took up the
practice of calling them "sporting rifles." Then along
come the 30- and 100 round magazines and the
bump stocks to prove the goal isn't a
"sporting rifle." OK, now it's a "fun rifle?"

Why have one? Open class 3-gun for one reason. Second reason, why not? If all we did was get "what we need", life could get pretty boring, pretty fast.

I like owning unique and expensive things. Why? Because I can. As long as I don't hurt my finances, I'm good to go and buy what I want. I work hard for my money and intend to enjoy it while I can.

Give them this then it will be speedloaders because revolvers do not need to be reloaded fast. Next thing you know we will be where the U.K. Is:

I like it, though I don't see myself wanting one.

Since you brought up the comparison to "Street Sweepers", there are times when an average citizen would want one of those also.

When the Rodney King Riots started, some of my night shift coworkers started getting calls from their wives about roving gangs in their neighborhoods. These were not gun owners, but they wanted to leave work to get guns and go protect their families.

Their was a waiting period in LA, so a knowledgeable coworker suggested they go to his LGS in Orange county, where they could buy arms without waiting.

After the riots ended and they returned to work, I asked what arms they chose. Three of them bought Street Sweepers, though others would have, but there were no more in stock.
So for this group of aerospace designers, a hi-cap shotgun was the right tool for the job at hand.
