Are the Classics out of production again?

I ordered a nice new 4" 27-9.

And come to find out that no...that is, NO...distributors apparently have them. And ETA on a new run is unknown. So I trolled the Gallery of Guns and looked at all the N-frame .357s. Of which all of them are "out of stock."

Anyone have a clue as to whether S&W plans to rip off a run of big magnums again this year?

Seems like EVERYTHING I've looked for recently on Gallery of Guns is on "Stock Watch" or "Allocated" whatever that means.

The only reliable source I've found is gunbroker - it makes me broke(r) every time I visit that site...

Ran into the same thing myself, LGS say's yea no problem I can get you a 4" 586, a couple of day's later I get a call saying "man I can't find one anywhere" all the suppliers are out. So I took the money I had saved up for the new 586, and bought a good used 66, and a really nice used 15 in nickel. I've been a blued gun guy for ever and now all of a sudden I have 2 silver k frame's. Oh well what the heck!!

I have a hunch they are busy building shields and not much else.

Why not just find yourself a nice used real 27?

I agree that they are probably busy building the current "hot gun" so they can pay the bills. Re-makes of expensive revolvers probably cost them way too much in time, labor and effort to warrant pulling employees off an assembly line of auto loaders that are selling to manufacture revolvers that they have to push out the door.

Do yourself a favor and get a (real classic) used M27 without the I/L, and other new "improvements". Right now they are a bit pricey, but the Classic series was not cheap either as I recall.

I'm sure plastic gun margins are greater, like stated above cancel your order and find yourself one with a hammer mounted firing pin. Once you figure out why you'll be glad you did.

I have a M29-3 3" Special Combat Magnum from 1985 with the hammer-mount firing pin. I have had it for ages and I love it. But I want a 27-9 too. They found one at last, and it'll be in next weekend. I'll even get to unbox it :) and I'll be the only one to ever shoot it other than at the factory! That counts for something. I always wanted one of the original .357 Magnums, and these are the direct descendant of the original Registered Magnum, but I can shoot the heck out of it and not worry about it reducing the value of it (I feel bad about blasting full power magnums out of the .44 because there is a little flame cutting on the top strap in front of the forcing cone, and that gun can't be replaced) because it may be a "Classic" but it is not a "collectible." It's FUN to blaze away with full-on magnum rounds at the range. BOOOOOOOOM! Though I'll shoot .38 Special mostly at the range and load up Remington Golden Saber .357s for the street.

BTW, Seabee, I looked at a 4" 586 at the gun pusher when we were over there today. They're sharp revolvers, but I don't really want the L-frame. I like the action on them, though. Crisp. Every bit as crisp as my 29-3 (BLASPHEMY! But true) And my husband liked the stocks, it's got the full Python-style wood grips. Very tidy. They felt really nice.
