First post! I live in New York (don't hold it against me). I am looking at a New in Box 5906TSW .9mm Tactical. The gun comes with 3, 15 round magazines which is a no-no here in NY. Are there any 10 round magazines that will fit this gun? If not, then I can't get it :(

Yes, S&W made a ton of 10 rounds mags for the 5900 series during the assault weapons ban. I also believe MecGar made 10 rounds mags as well.

All2kool is dead on for where to find them. Use a variety of search terms like: 5900, 5906, 5903, 5943, 5946, 910, 915, etc. They all used the same standardized magazine. You might also find someone on here willing trade the 15 rounders for 10 rounders via the classifieds.

I got a feeling turnejm sent in a PM the swap I have in mind...:D

I didn't find any on CDNN but Greg Cote has 10 round mags for the 5900 Series pistols.

Great price on great magazines.

We have the same laws here in Massachusetts. 15 round magazines are not illegal, as long as they were made before a certain date (9/13/1994).

All mags made for the 59 series will fit in the 5906TSW.

The earliest ones are easy to identify. They have flat steel baseplates, black plastic followers and no numbered witness holes. These are definitely pre-ban and OK for you to own and use.

I think around the time the 3rd Gen. came out they changed the magazines some. These have black plastic baseplates, black plastic followers and have numbered witness holes to 14 rounds, down the right side only of the mag. These are also pre-ban and are good-to-go.

Then it gets tricky. Around 1992 (I think) they changed again. They still had the black plastic floorplate, but now used an orange follower, and had witness holes down both the left and right side of the body, and numbered to 15 rounds.

The tricky part is that S&W made millions of these updated mags before the ban (9/13/1994). Trouble is, they still make exactly the same mags today. As far as I know, they have made no changes to the mags since that time, so a mag made yesterday (which would be unlawful for you to own) looks exactly like on made right before the ban (which is OK for you to own).

During the ban era (1994 - 2004) all magazines greater than 10 rounds were stamped "for military/LE use only" or something to that effect. Any mags that are marked like this are unlawful for you to own. After the Federal ban expired, they stopped marking their >10 round mags this way.

This is just a little heads up to let you know what is out there.
If you get the 5906TSW, you can have 15 round mags for it - you just have to get some that were made prior to 1994.

If there's a way for us to trade magazines, I've got one for you sitting next to me. I don't need it but I'd like to trade for a 15 round magazine. Maybe I'd sell it instead?

Don't know about Mass, but in Kalifornistan it's legal to transfer rebuild kits. IE, a disassembled magazine.

There are indeed 10 round 59 series magazines available for sale. They're available even in non-magazine ban states , as guns and gear do move from state to state.

I would personally NOT play the "pre-ban/post ban" game. If the gun was made before 1994 and it came with the box and a standard capacity magazine, then life is good as proving the origin of the magazine is easy. It gets a lot more problematic buying "pre-ban" magazines via internet or gun store channels;how do you KNOW that 14 round flat baseplate magazine wasn't made after 1994?

Unless the answer to that question is documented, id pass on owning any >10 round mags in any regulated jurisdiction. An dollar of prevention = $10,000 in legal fees.

IF OP or any ohers are looking for 10 rounders I have 2....sell or trade for 15's.... let me know
