Are these Cokes?

Can't tell you how disappointing it is to see them changed out to mis-matched magnas or newer no diamond types on original 1950's guns for sale.

Agree, it's a downer to find an early 44 Magnum or M57 wearing something that shouldn't be there. I'm ready to find a couple of those though as I recently acquired a post war OD with cokes and a modified 28-2 with another set. Won't bother me at all to switch them to a gun on which they belong.

Here is another comparison. Watch out for targets that have been shortened on the bottom (makes the checkering look bigger) and K targets can look more like cokes again because the checkering can look larger.

They're not correct on that non-pinned model 57 (post 1980).

You're free to do whatever you want, but they belong on a .44 or .41 Magnum made before 1966...

A popular grip website offered a pair for $600. I sent an email offering $450. There was no response. A few days later I went back to the website and they were offered for $900. Of course, I gave up.

For those who can't afford them but like the style, Altamont offers a very good replica (not exact) of the original Cokes. I think they're around $100. I have a pair and I use them if I plan on taking an N frame out shooting and don't want any accidents.

Here is an example where you might suspect cokes if you only had to go by this one pic. Of course the wood is walnut but still on first glance they have the look.

I always thought the main difference that made a set of "cokes" was the coke bottle profile swelling at the center of the grip, easily seen from the rear of the gun when installed.

They have arrived. Just a small chip on the tip of the left grip, other than that they look very nice. Just a bit of toothbrushing with Murphy's Soap and Ren wax. Thanks for all the helpful information and positive comments.

The only silly questions are the ones that don't get asked...They can also be recognized as seen from the rear by a shape that can be described as similar to a Coke bottle (hence the moniker)...The easiest way to recognize them is to look at the bottom where the shape is distinctly oval, rather than the more squared off shape of the more commonly seen targets...I'm sure someone will have some photos soon to illustrate this......Ben

This should answer your question about "cokes". In the attached photo, the grips on the right are cokes on my pre-29; the grips on the left are standard target stocks. Note the oval shape on the cokes. Thanks, Truckman, for getting my butt off the couch to participate in this one.
