...the grips fit my hand well. If I choose to replace them with wood grips, is it likely that the new grips would be wider/thicker than these grips?

The grips seem to be made of rubber. Is there a good way to clean them? Some kind of green mold is growing on them now.

Those are Pachmayr Grippers and the gun would likely have come with wood target grips. You can best clean any Pachmayr grip with Armor All or anything similar. Wipe them down good so they aren't slick when you shoot them.

welcome to the Forum,,,,good info above, and all depending on the cost (price) of the gun, determines if it is a good deal or retail..yes, the 'original' grips are available and if these "fit your hand" so be, LOTS of them were put on many K frame LE guns in the past 40 years or more...they work!! keep them clean and also make sure you clean and oil GOOD ,UNDER the grips,m as rubber grips have a tendency to NOT absorb moisture ( condensation) and can stain, rust or tarnish the grip frame......;)

Looks like a very nice gun................

Welcome to the FORUM, and nice gun! I have a few sets of rubber grips for my guns. None of them wears them. I just find beauty in nice wood.
Everyone has their own opinion. If you decide to go to wood, try to handle some S&W examples wearing different grips. Then decide what works for you. Bob
