Are You Happy With Your Shield

I bought mine 3 months ago today .. launch day 4/13/12 from Cabelas. Before I even made it home, I stopped at my range and put a box through it, while leaving the parking lot I called my friend from ATEi to ask him if he would take a look to see what he thought and if he could make the trigger better. To me it was a standard M&P trigger, but slightly better. He had me come in that day and he replaced the sear and cleaned up the action, discovered the M&P Trijicon HD's from his M&P FS fit the Shield. I knew that I would want stippling done to the grip as it really wasn't aggressive enough. So I did that myself a month later. Doug from ATEi called me over a week ago asking if I was still interested in racking serrations, that he was finally set up to do Shields. Oh heck yeah and dropped my gun off with him later that night.

The final step was the melonite finish and I was able to pick it up last night . ..

I had the same done two years ago with my M&P9c and like this gun it is modified to better perform for me. Both of my M&P's are lifetime keepers. They are an investment to protect my life.

I have a 40 Shield and I like it fine. I bought it about a month ago, and it shoots well. It's accurate, but the small group was a couple inches to the left. I don't have that problem with my 3914. So maybe I'm not used to the M&P type trigger, or whatever. The group was very small, just not centered on target. I figure if it keeps hitting in the same place slightly to the left after a few more range sessions, I'll just drift the rear sight over slightly.

The only thing I noticed that I didn't like was the grip was just a little too flat. I need to put a piece of inner tube/Houge handall-type of set up on it. It feels like it just needs a little bit of filler in my palm and it will be perfect.

Purchased my Shield first weekend of June at St.Louis gun show.
Dealer was a non brick and mortar gun dealer who had 6 tables set up. So he had plenty of hardware.
Very nice guy, amiable. Discussing various fire arms on the table when I happened to ask if he had any Shields.
Surprise, surprise, he had gotten 2 in the day before, but didn't have any space to display.
Asked if I wanted to see the 9 or the 40. I looked at the .40 S&W asked his price, great price, so I said I would take it.

Since then, 200 rounds of Win. white box with 2 FTF. Gunsmith diagnosed as bad primers. I have also read of several other shooters in other makes having the same issue with the Win. white box.

Extremely pleased with this gun. .40 S&W recoil was very manageable, and didn't seem any worse than the XD 9.
So much so, that my wife would rather shoot the .40 Shield than my XD Service 9.

Like mine , picked up the .40 on 070812. Have shot it at the range three times for a total of 150 rounds. Very accurate, fun, and impressive package. Thanks sw

I thought your Shield was having problems with the mags not staying seated during live fire?

I thought your Shield was having problems with the mags not staying seated during live fire?

Maybe he figured he wasn't seating them properly, or he was accidentally releasing the mags. Either way, not the fault of the gun.

Just got the Shield 0.40 and am getting mag drops especially on the larger mag. This is a known problem noted by several folks. Based upon some others comments, this may be a mag release issue. I will call S&W on Monday. Otherwise, it was comfortable to shoot and had no FTE for FTF issues.

I would suggest you don't go out and buy the Shield right away.

Do what I did.

Buy a Kahr CM9. Shoot 600 rounds send the gun back 3 times in 4 months get to know all the customer service reps by first name their birthdays and favorite hobbies.

Get real frustrated every range trip.

Now that you have wasted 2 cases of ammo and lost a head of hair from pulling it out you are now ready to appreciate a lonely life owning a Shield because you are not going to be wishing customer service happy birthday.

Russ,
This is exactly the same experience I've had with one of my Kahr's. Now it sits in the safe collecting dust. So much wasted ammo trying to get that thing running right. Every range trip I'd want to scream in anger.

Really considering the Shield 9 but wanted to see if issues surfaced. I swore I'd never buy another mini-9 but the Shield has got me VERY tempted.

Shield 9mm

After a 2 month wait, I finally got my Shield 9mm. Bought it sight-unseen. My thinking is--since it's so hard to fine right now that if I don't like it I will be able to sell it no problem.

So I'm happy I finally got it. And it is small and compact and coming with 2 magazines is nice. I have not shot it yet but plan to this week, so we'll see how that goes.

I think my only problem will be finding an IWB tuckable holster that I like. I'm not ready to declare this a pocket gun, but I'm going to try a pocket holster and see how it works with my dress pants.

Lol. At least it will
Shoot and the magazines will
Not drop out. You should be very happy with it

I bought my first Shield 9mm the week after it's unveiling at the St. Louis NRA convention. Liked it so much bought a 2'nd one which I sent to Robar to work their magic. It now is one of my favorite carry guns and is held in the same high esteem as my other M&Ps.

Awesome CCW weapon

I have the 40. One of the finest guns I've ever had right out of the box. Can't believe the low amount of felt recoil. Truly a keeper.

On another note I think comments should be withheld until you have put 4-500 rounds thru a weapon. Guns are made of many parts and need to wear in. I put 400+ rounds thru a gun and then go over it with a very critical eye. If there are any issues I contact CS and have them resolved. Then I put another 2-300 rounds thru to see if issues fixed. Remember you are the final inspector of any product. Oh well enough of that.
Gun is just awesome. Shoot it alot and carry it daily. No issues.

Yes, 7 Rounds, Legal In New York..For Now

Having just sold out of New York State all my high capacity pistols and magazines to comply with our new guns laws, I am happy with my Shield, as it only holds 7 rounds of ammunition, which makes it legal to own (for now) here where I live.

I have the .40 and absolutely love it.... No issues so far and felt recoil isn't as bad as I imagined it would be. Looking to pick up a 9MM barrel and mag for it, in order to save some dinero on ammo....

Love "them" so much, i no longer own any glocks (blocks). You would have to take my arm, before id give up my Shield.

I own the Shield 40. I love this gun and I carry it everyday. IWB holster bought on ebay fits nicely. I forget its there. Only issue is the front sight is too small for my old eyes. Gonna have to install Big Dots.
