Are you happy with your Shield???

I love the 9mm M&P Shield BUT.....

All of the operations are stiff and do not soften up with use. I had to get a 3.1 barrel swap and it took over 3 months of haggling. The "aftermarket" with the FFL guys for parts for this pistol is virtually non existent.

My wife is becoming accustomed to these operating issues BUT will not load a magazine without using her loader helper!

54 years ago this month I left for my 3 day train ride to San Diego with a 1/2 pack of smokes and $5... Got up first morning and bought a cup of coffee and a doughnut - cost me $5...

When I first purchased the SW Shield 9mm, the gun was stiff and I needed King Kong strength to rack the slide. After approx 100 rounds a the use of a good cleaning and lubricant (I used Rand CLP) the operation of the slide became easier to use.

I did the same thing

Love mine. One very worthy upgrade is an Apex Tactical Trigger kit. The factory trigger pull of 6.5 lbs (possibly more with some state specific versions) is, IMHO too much for a pistol of that size. The Apex kit reduces the pull down to 5-5.5 lbs and is worth every penny.

I've also added Hi-Viz sights (for my old man eyes) and Talon rubber grips.

I've put about 500 rounds through it with zero issues. As others have said, stiff slide, but will loosen up after a couple boxes.
My set up is identical. I have had 3 different shields... The first had the stock trigger and yes, you pull it down and left. Second I got an APEX ADEK trigger - 2.5lbs... way too light for a carry gun. Third is my EDC now. APEX trigger, about a 4.5# pull and TFO sights for my old eyes... and I shoot it lights out!

Great pocket gun. But rent it for her first to make sure she is ok with it. It isn't a question of "can" but whether she is comfortable with it. Some people think it's a little snappy (even the 9). I rotate it as a pocket gun with an LC9s (the newer striker version). It's another one to look at. Personal preference? The Shield 9 is a class act.

Love mine! Have the Shield in 40 and put 600 rounds flawlessly.

Use it as my primary CC daily.

Very accurate on range my only issue is that my hand starts to fatigue and after 50 rounds I start loosing accuracy not the gun.

I love my shield 9mm. It was great out of the box as well as its twin I bought a few weeks later..the only thing I changed is I built up the thumb safety just a bit with Brownell's fiberglas and then rounded it off a bit. It is perfect but S&W needs to improve it and get rid of the sharp edge on top of the lever. I highly recommend the Shield 9mm but would not buy the 40 unless I could reload them and reduce the load...The 40 in a compact is not for fun at all!

Do buy the Shield in 9mm. The mag springs could be clipped a few links to make them easier to load but buy an Uplula and save your thumbnail! I have only to install the XS Big Dots on mine and it will be perfect. The stock rear sight also is very sharp at the rear. S&W has beat Glock to making a thin gun for EDC with the Shield! I will never buy another Glock 26..

I think my response will be the first from The People's Republic of California. I took delivery of my California compliant M&P Shield 9mm in May 2014. I couldn't be happier. A few things that some people don't like are the external safety and the red-sided shark fin tactile Loaded Chamber Indicator. First I'll address the external safety. It is way harder to engage the safety than disengage, so if you choose to carry with the safety off, there is little change of accidentally engaging it. I carry IWB appendix, which many don't like because of the possibility of mortal injury in the event of a negligent discharge. Because of this carry method, I carry with the safety on, but have trained to flick the safety as part of my presentation of the firearm during the middle of my draw stroke. I can have my first shot on target in a little over 1.3 seconds this way, and still carry a safe firearm. Second, regarding the "shark fin" LCI: It's a non-issue. It doesn't hang up on anything, and does not interfere with the sight picture. Although a little stiff for the first few hundred rounds, this gun has run flawlessly since the day I bought it. I brought it home, cleaned it and treated all metal surfaces with Frog Lube before I ever ran a live round through it. It runs like a top! We recently bought another for my wife, and she loves it!

I carry my Shield 40 everywhere and love it. Perfect size for CCW. As mentioned, it's a little stiff at first, but that loosens up with use.

Great Gun!!!

I love mine. A little stiff at first, but nothing a few hundred rounds won't cure. Great gun.

My wife has the Shield in 9mm & I can tell you she loves it, (so do I when she leaves it home), not one problem so far & she's had it over a year now. I also got her the Crimson Trace laser for it, that's really a great combo if you like lasers, I know it helps my wife because of her eyesight

It is a great gun. Very accurate. I didn't like the trigger pull when I got it. Felt gritty. I had an Apex trigger kit put in and it is smooth as silk. It is my favorite carry gun.

I cannot recommend the Shield highly enough!
Yes, it can be a little tricky at first. They're tight and it can be difficult to get the slide locked back, for example.
But once you learn the gun and it's broken in, it works beautifully. It's easy to shoot, accurate, reliable and concealable.
I've been a confirmed Glock guy for years but liked the Shield from the first moment I saw and handled one. I'm glad I bought it. It's my primary carry gun now and fun to shoot. I plan on getting one for my wife and my son-in-law down the road.
When S&W introduced it, it was an immediate game changer. Everybody else has been forced to play catch up.

Ditto, what he said. Love it now.

I really like my shield. It's one of the newer (no safety) pistols. The only problem is that it's very hard to insert the 7 round mag. Works okay if you only load 6.

I had the same problem, got a Maglula and problem solved, makes loading the mag a breeze.
