So I stopped by the Sportsman's Warehouse here in town today. They get their weekly shipments in on Saturday nights. I get back to the firearms dept and there's the usual crowd of people around the counter as of late and when I get up to counter...I was told they had actually gotten a decent shipment of various ammo in except for .223.

The kicker is that their was a crowd of over 200 people waiting to see what came in when they opened today. Needless to say by the time I got there the most popular was already gone. Though they did still have cases of small pistol primers avail which surprised me.

Anyone else seeing crowds waiting for shipments? Gotta say the shortage is one thing, now the crowds waiting for shipments is a whole new dimension.

What I did see today was ordering some ammo paying for it , receiving an E- mail that It would be ready in three hours then driving 60 miles to pick it up and no ammo. The really sad thing is that this a great company that I have ordered from for the last 10 years. Never a single problem ever. Even the best people are having problems.

Reminds me of the early 90's when my daughter was into Beanie Babies - it went from a few little kids checking them out in Hallmark stores to roving hoards of soccer moms following UPS trucks in Chrysler minivans, waiting to see where they stopped.

Damnedest thing I ever saw...

Our local Academy gets shipments on Monday's , Wensday's and Friday's. The store opens at 8:00 and 50 to 100 hundred people would be in line by 5:00, three hours before the store opened.

For the past few weeks there have been lines forming almost every day at the Walmart closest to me. The guy who works in the sporting section has told everyone that they are putting new shipment out at between 4-5 p.m., so there's usually a crowd by 3 p.m. and by 5:30 it's all gone. He also shouts out a list of what he's expecting for the next day (I guess they get some sort of inventory list). It's mostly 9mm, .40, and 38 spl. Just wish the hoarders would leave some for the rest of us... every time I've showed up I have noticed the same group of people.

The only thing my local walmart has on the self is 40 S&W, just what i need! Has me wondering if im the only one in town shooting 40 cal.

Got to wonder how much of that ammo shows up at the local gun show at twice the price. Wish they would stamp the boxes so they could be identified latter as to their original store of origin.
Heard the same story about lines out side Sportsmans Warehouse in this area, lined up before the store opens, they aren't even bothering to put it on the shelves people are taking straight from the crates it shipped in.

Before all the insanity started usually wal-mart had good prices on ammo. Ours here has empty shelves. Gun shows is where I used to get 44spl ammo. Don't even want to know what the dog robbers are asking for it now. I bought a die set and am happy reloading my own. It's not just ammo and firearms that are insane. Reloading equipment is scarce and hard to find. The manufacturers are having a heck of a time keeping up with the demand. And this isn't going to get any better for a long time. Frank

i can see the pistol and .223 ammo going fast but i don't under stand why i can find any shotgun shells that you use for trap shooting.

Shells are plentiful at Cabelas and Walmart around here. I will say though I'm seeing a LOT more 8 these days. Maybe just because it's finally visible :)

Federal 2 3/4 7 1/2 100 box is about $21 @ WMT
Federal Ammunition 12-Gauge 3 DRAM, 100ct: Hunting : Walmart.com

Cabelas had the NOT pink version of these in the stores (massive quantity) yesterday for $59.99. Maybe you could order online.

Cabela's: Federal 12-gauge Top Gun Pink Target Loads

All I can tell you is get there early enough to buy the ammo you want. Don't disparage those who are willing to take the time to be sure they have ammo. If you want ammo these days you have to put the effort in to get it. If that means standing in line then so be it. I can tell you as one of those who have been standing in the cold waiting for Academy to open that there has been a side benefit to this madness. I've made a bunch of new friends whom I wouldn't have met if there wasn't an ammo shortage.

Well ,see you in line tomorrow.

i just seen an action site on auctionarms that people have the bid up to $750.00 for 1000 9mm's... WOW... i can't believe someone is going to paying that much for 9mm's. all of the wal-marts in my area are sold out and the nearest cabelas is over 100ml. away.

I went in to a local Walmart yesterday about 10:30 in the morning. The gentleman behind the counter asked what caliber I was looking for. I was just curious what he had. Nothing in particular.

He told me a couple hors earlier he had 9 boxes of 9mm, several .45 and .40 and a few others. All that was left was .40 and .45. I picked up a Federal 100 round valuve pack of .45 for $40.00. That left one for somebody else.

He said it would all be gone by lunch. Same thing over and over.

There were gas shortages under Jimmy Carter. One night Johny Carson joked in his monologue that the next shortage would be toilet paper. For weeks, the shelves for toilet paper were bare in grocery stores.

Well if any one noticed early on when this started there was a few pages of 9mm ammunition available on GB. A few weeks later there was 8-10 pages today there is 25, entrepreneurship! greed, free market call it what you want. Locally I have seen shops selling 9mm from 14.00 a box to 20.00

Then there is one or two that had bulk pack Winchester white box for a 69.99 for a hundred rounds.
When folks stop buying and paying these premium Inflated prices things will calm down and the supply pipeline will fill up again.

Still experiencing the same thing here. Armslist.com and gunlistings.org local sellers are even asking near 1.00/round for the common stuff. Hope they aren't getting it.

Further, was at bass pro yesterday and was told the truck that came in yesterday would be unloaded and on the shelves when they opened today. Gave it a shot and it was like black Friday...around 100 people waiting to get in. Sure enough everyone went straight to the ammo. They did get a decent amount of .40/.45/9mm. No .22lr. Somewhat reassured that at least some is available if you time it right.

My area must be exceptionally bad for ammo right now. When I bought my shield 9mm Feb 8 I picked up 3 boxes of ammo and If I had know it was this bad I would have tried to clean the whole shelf off.... I farmed out 2 and a half boxes practicing for a few weeks and then tried to find more ammo....Yea right.

I pretty much capitulated tonight and gave up and bought some CCI Blazer brass 9mm off of Natchez for 17.99 a box and got hosed on shipping for $21.00 for 5 boxes.

Stopped in at the local gun shop 3 times, 2 other stores several times, checked at wall mart and got laughed at at least 4 times the last few weeks and never so much as seen a box...What is your time worth looking and gas running around?

For me, it was .36 cents a round plus $21 shipping...

Oh almost forgot..... and 2 WEEKS waiting on the order....
