Arkansas enhanced carry

Arkansas enhanced carry classes are now beginning, only took the police over a year to develop the classes. The way I understand this is you must have a ccw and take some extra training, classroom plus range time and of course pony up $150.00. This enhanced carry allows one to carry on public college campuses, the state house, and some other public areas now forbidden with a ccw.

I wonder if there will be any reciprocity. I was an AR resident and got it when they first passed it in mid 90's. When I moved to TN the TN license and training was way more in depth and better training than the AR license was. You can also (which I did) get a lifetime over here.

The question is...do you frequent the "now off-limit" areas enough to justify spending the time and $$$ to carry there?

I can do that with my LEOSA permit, and it is free except for a box of ammo each year. KS has a law that a retired officer with a LEOSA permit, can carry anywhere an active duty officer can.

My wife works at a college, so is keen to be able to carry there, given all the crazies shooting up college campuses the last few years. I take programming classes there for fun, too. So we are in our areas first enhanced CHCL class, at the end of this month. We've already attended a class to practice the qualifying part. Ends up being a lot of hours in classes to get the enhanced license, since you do have to have the normal CHCL to take the enhanced class, but at least the application fee for the state is only $15.

As far as the makeup of the class, I've only got general information since I have not taken it yet. But it will consist of about 6 hours of classroom training and 2 hours of qualifying time. I'd guess the qualifying time would get reduced if you pass on the first try. You can have 3 attempts at it, but if you don't pass, you have to wait like 6 months before you can try again. And at that point, you have to take the entire course again, not just the qualification part!

The wife and I did not find shooting a qualifying score difficult to do in the class I mentioned above, but some that don't practice much or shoot well might struggle with it.
