Army to close many museums

Well, if the real reason is maintenance cost, then it makes sense to combine or close some to reduce that overhead. If it's DOGE in disguise, then that's another story……..

In the case of Fort Eustis, what costs? It's a bunch of old vehicles parked outside. Some interesting, others examples of the waste of taxpayer dollars. Like the flying jeep. Unless we missed the building.

The Rock Island Arsenal museum is a true loss to all gun people. It is the John M. Browning Memorial Museum (or some such), and it has some really unique itmes in it dating back to the Revolution, IIRC. Hopefully they will disperse the artifacts from there to other museums.

The museum here at Ft Sam Houston is pretty good. Lots of frontier era military gear, uniforms, lots of guns. The only examples of a Benet Mercier MG and a M1904 Maxim MG I have ever seen. But it is housed in an old building, and everything does appear antiquated. They have a huge collection of old photographs of about everything ever associated with Fort Sam. I have copied some of them, used them in making some historical presentations about the Army during the Indian wars and the campaign against Pancho Villa. I haven't been there in about 15 years so I don't know what it looks like now.
