Army's Take on its new M17 Pistol

"The M17 is said by developers to bring much tighter dispersion, improved versatility and next-generation accuracy."

Sounds more like a Benelli or Mossberg shotgun than a sidearm.

Government scientists don't use the word "group" when talking about firearm accuracy. It does not contain enough syllables.:p

A striker fired pistol that is reliable with hard, NATO-spec primers?
Color me intrigued.

Nice to get some input from actual users in combat instead of speculation from some old fuds (me included) or chairborne rangers. Please pass along my gratitude for serving our country under difficult circumstances.
Chairborne rangers....i like It :D Kinda like the supersecret subdivision of the SEALS many of us belong to.... WALRUS ;)
Like I tell my kids back in the day we didn't have fancy equipment like night vision goggles-we knew we were going on a night mission when they gave us carrots three days in a row. :D:D:D (admission-the only night missions I actually went on involved the stalking and interrogation of the illusive secret agent Luicille Loosenhips.)

In the early 80's I shot those old WWII vintage 1911's in the military. Yep they rattled quite a bit. But it's not the rattle that counts but the barrel and bushing fit. The rattle didn't make them unreliable or inaccurate.
In the late 60's at Ft. Benning, I saw a demonstration of the 1911 by Bill Blankenship. I believe that he was a staff sergeant at the time. He ended up being the individual national pistol champion at Camp Perry, several times. While sitting in the stands, I saw him pick out a 1911 out of a long box of them. He shook it, so we could hear it rattle. He then commenced to shoot at an axe head, one-handed. I don't remember the distance, but it seems like it was around 7 yds. His bullet hit the axe head, split the bullet and it broke a balloon on each side of the axe handle.

Having fired an old rattling 1911 to qualify, I'd say that it'll do the job. I have a Sig P 320 compact and it has far superior trigger pull and accuracy than the old military 1911. The Beretta is good, but the M 17 beats it in just about every way.

I'm not a chairborne ranger but I an part of the super secret group selected from only the top SEALS-WALRUS. We were so off the books that we didn't have fancy gear like night vision goggles. When we were served carrots for a week, we know it was gonna get hot soon
Y'all ever heard about when the USA assassinated Sonny Bono????? Good-that's the way we like it. Skiing accident my ***.
