Dangerous and unusual, huh?

In production continuously since about 1962 with something like 20,000,000 produced on 3 continents.

Unusual? I don't think so. In fact, probably one of the most commonly recognized rifles in the world.

Dangerous? Firing a cartridge that is significantly less powerful than just about any centerfire hunting rifle cartridge in common use (in fact, not even allowed for hunting larger game animals in many states), it is difficult to support the argument that it is somehow notably dangerous.

Numerous reports from FBI and DOJ sources have repeatedly made the point that the so called "assault weapons" are involved in only a tiny percentage of criminal episodes. This clearly refutes the judge's ruling.

It seems that some judges have difficulty separating the application and interpretation of the law from the making of law. This appears to be a good example of attempting to legislate from the bench, along with the imposition of a personal opinion as fact.

We reap what we sow and in this case it's another Clinton appointee:
We can make every logical argument under the sun to refute the "unusual and dangerous" assertion and it won't make any difference whatsoever to the gun grabbers.

Stupid decision but I don't make too much of it at this point. I seriously doubt her reasoning will survive the appeals. I'm not sure about the judges in her district but a successful is possible there. If not, I'll wager there will be a conflicting opinion in another district if a similar case comes along. Under the near-worst case scenario, the supreme court will get the issue, if not the specific case. This reasoning will not survive the SC the way it's structured today.

I think the decision will have some short run effects but I don't believe it will survive appeals.

Our armed forces are gov. employees, as am I. Thanks for the compliment :D

You wouldn't want to be too predictable - makes you an easier target for the enemy.

I was originally going to write elected officials - but that would exclude appointed and other wise hired folks - and even just politicians didn't seem to cover everyone who should be covered.

Obi-Wan: ... So what I told you was true, from a certain point of view.
Luke: [incredulously] A certain point of view?
Obi-Wan: Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

Another thing that's dangerous is a judge willing to rule based on emotion instead of fact or law, dangerous but unfortunately not unusual.
