I saw a few, or maybe the same one, running around Scottsdale this year. No passenger that I could see.
This one stopped for children crossing the road.




As far as GPS.
I use WAZE or Google maps for directions. Once I tried to outsmart it around Washington DC going my own way, and won’t make that mistake again. It gets turned on every time I’m going somewhere even if I know the way and driven there a hundred times. Too many detours, road obstacles, traffic tie ups, etc around here.
Don’t have a single map, don’t need one, nor the time to look at one.

Recently I made an appointment at the local Toyota Dealership for routine service on my wife’s Highlander. The “person” answering the service appointment line was a nice woman’s voice. There was a slight pause between my answers and her response. I then asked “are you a robot”. Her response was that she was my personal service assistant. Carried on a conversation about available dates and times and made the appointment. No background sounds and other indications this was a real person. Clearly an AI “person” I was talking to. Sort of weird and somewhat unsettling.

Next time, as a test, ask your PA if she was married and what would her husband and kids say if you asked her out for coffee some time to get her response.
Then pray you were not wrong, that she was a real person.

Same with knowledgeable people at the big box hardware centers.

I've found that the phrase "I want to talk to a human" or just "Human" can shortcut a lot of "chat". Recently, there was an appellate court decision that had to be withdrawn because whatever "research tool" someone used constructed a couple of fictitious case citations. OTOH, this is per the news media.

Allegedly, there is some work going on with autonomous unmanned weapons systems taking the human out of the decision to fire. That'd seem to be uncomfortably close to Skynet.

Years ago I was on a flight with a former classmate and she said they will never get rid of a human pilot.
She was working on unmanned weapons for aircraft and said one of the biggest, if not the biggest, problem was if two opposing AC 'see' each other. If one makes a move to counter a possible threat by an oncoming AC, the other might see that and moves to make their counter move too.
Each AC could get into a move/counter move loop to where each think the other is a threat and start shooting.
With speed and sophistication of the Aircraft the time from first contact to engagement could be less than 3 seconds.
Pilots were necessary to keep this from happening.
This was over 30 years ago, I wonder if AI has progressed enough to the replace the fail safe human being.

Yesterday I went to the local Walmart to get cat food.
Rounded up 48 cans on two cardboard boxes (they cut the boxes about 1-1.5" high, just fantastic if you load up the cat food 2 cans high - what a juggling act )
Not sure if our local WalMart is different than others, but they have a policy that they have to scan each can, yeah 48 cans take a bit of time to scan each one.
I got to the lane expecting to hang around as they scan the cans but apparently the cashier wasn't having any of that, she did the right thing - she scanned one can and use the cash register to multiply by 48 (I will try to look her up the next time I go get more cat food - it was refreshing to see someone that isn't bogged down with stupid store managers mandates.

My latest update on my Amazon Alexa is AI driven. Interesting and I like it BUT it makes a lot of mistakes, especially with the weather, not so much predictions, It sometimes give the wrong date, or a temp obviously for some other area.
They do not THINK, they only compute and assemble. And they have no imagination. So the Accountants running todays corporations are going to love them

I love reading the AI generated responses to my question entered in the search box. Over half the time the answer includes incorrect info.
Do I want AI driving my car? Do I want AI piloting my flight? Do I want AI doing my kids homework? The answer is a resounding NO !

I’m waiting for when the answer to my search says “you just asked that two days ago….what are you stupid ??”
