Although Washington state, at times seems to be quite liberal when it comes to gun laws, last year a bill was submitted for consideration in the legislature regarding assault rifle registration.

The bill, first would require all non-registered assault rifle to be registered. The bill also includes a paragraph detailing the right for local authorities to search assault rifle owner's homes. The search is to inspect and guarantee owners are keeping their assault rifles under lock and key.
The bill also gives LE the authority to confiscate the assault rifle if not duly kept. The law thus opens the door for LE to request proof of registration/ownership of any weapon they find during the search.

This bill has been approved to go to the floor for vote as of Jan. 3, 2014. The bill did not disappear as so many legislators assumed it would. Even the person sponsoring the bill did not know how or when the search of home got written into the bill.

However the new proposed bill did have the "search of home" removed, it is scary that some legislators jump on a band wagon limiting our rights without reading the proposal line for line. The new law is asking for all assault rifles to be registered not just ones being purchased as of date. In conjunction, the proposed bill is outlawing any magazine that holds more than ten rounds.

Unfortunately, what these legislators still don't understand is that a person with intent to commit a crime does not care about the laws. In the past, during previously outlawed magazine size, the black market (found at most street corners or allies) offered up most extended sized magazines for a premium. Which meant, the black marketeers got rich, the buy got poorer until the committed more robberies to gain more wealth at the harm of law abiding citizens.

Will legislators ever get it?

You are welcome. I didn't realize it either until just a little while ago when, for some unknown reason, I decided to do a search for new gun laws in Washington state.

Oh they understand it. They just don't care. The purpose of gun control is not to reduce crime. It's not even about guns. It's about control and taking choice away from the citizens. Who are much easier to harass if they aren't armed.

So,let me get this correct. Tegister your rifle "assault style" whatever that is and you give the government permission to search your home.

Do not register you are illegal, but.....the government must obtain a search warrant. Hmmmmm. Choices...life is full of choices.

Well assault rifles are already restricted by the BATF. Remember a assault rifle is a selective fire (selective between semi-automatic, fully automatic and/or burst fire) rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. But terminology isn't their strong point it just makes a Modern Sporting Rifle sound scary.

My assault weapon doesn't work.

With all due respect, after reading the document few times I failed to find anything about searching the owner's property.
Could you please provide a quote or stop disinformation? God knows, we elect enough people to supply us with the lies.

"However the new proposed bill did have the "search of home" removed"

So when you click his link that will no longer be in there.

I have sent my state senator and representative emails letting them know that I am very much against this...for whatever that is worth but no action gets no results at all

I got one reply so far from my senator and this bill is still in committee and has not gone to the floor...I strongly suggest that you send emails with your views on this to your state representatives and senator...you can look them up on Access Washington

I got a reply also. I have sent a lot of emails; not just my representatives and senators but also all my friends asking them to do the same.

That's Pretty Scary

I just read the bill from the link. I was initially wondering how they were going to define "assault weapon" Here is the beginning of the definition

(20) "Assault weapon" means:
8 (a) Any semiautomatic pistol or semiautomatic or pump-action rifle
9 or shotgun that is capable of accepting a detachable magazine, with a
10 capacity to accept more then ten rounds of ammunition and that also
11 possesses any of the following: (proceeds to list extras like pistol grips, threaded barrels etc.)

Then read the following on page 6.

(2) No person in this state shall possess or have under his or her
28 control at one time both of the following:
29 (a) A semiautomatic or pump-action rifle, semiautomatic pistol, or
30 shotgun capable of accepting a detachable magazine; and
31 (b) Any magazine capable of use with that firearm that contains
32 more than ten rounds of ammunition.
33 (3) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to any of the
34 following:
35 (a) The possession of an unloaded assault weapon for the purpose of
36 permanently relinquishing it to a law enforcement agency in this state.

Any 2 of those in you car or "under your control" at the same time is a felony.

All I can say is WOW!

Vic, you may have read the document a few times, but you obviously did not read all or retain all of my original post. I state right in my original post that the new document does not contain the "search home" verbiage contained in the original bill.

I do not misinform people. I post as clearly as I am able and post factual document/informational links.

Dayum, sounds like WA is going all kommiefornistan. Sorry to hear that it is spreading.

Why stop at rewriting the Constitution when you can also rewrite the Dictionary.

wow...this is news to me....time to send some emails to legislators..thanks for posting this

YOU have to do more than email.

Call and WRITE PHYSICAL LETTERS.

Arrange a visit with other gun owners to meet your representatives at their offices.

In NY before the Safe Act NY reps were NOT reading emails or answering alls.

I called 3x until I got a message and waited 20 minutes to speak to someone.

The person told me, that the state senator I had wanted a 5 round limit on all guns in the state and assault weapons and handguns that failed that limit would have to be turned in.

If you don't actually get ahold of them they do NOT fear losing the election.

It is a psychological effort by staff and anti-gun activists to ISOLATE the representatives from gun owners so they do not meet anyone in their normal course of affairs that disagrees with the legislation. It steels the representatives to vote.

YOU have to write letters, call and SHOW up in person. It weakens their resolve.

My Senator had turned off the phones and was avoiding anyone opposed to the party line.

If New York and Connecticut vote out their governors then the rest will fall in line. If those governors get to keep their careers then I will probably have to sell my rifle before Indiana and the rest of the country falls. Texas will probably be the last free state.
