So I just read some of the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein. The legislation prohibits the sale, transfer, importation and manufacture of 157 assault weapons, and rifles, pistols and shotguns based on their military characteristics. The bill also bans high-capacity ammunition magazines.

I reviewed the list of firearms and saw that the S&W M&P 15 is one of the firearms that would be restricted under this law.

My question is would the S&W M&P 15-22 also be restricted should this law pass?

Thanks,

IF it passes, yes, M&P 15 covers all M&P 15 models. The 15-22 is simply designated as an M&P 15-22. Nevermind the fact that it IS also covered under the AR portion of the proposal.

They Can Ban What Ever They Want Too...

But thet will never see me at a weapons roundup!!!

Never gonna happen - especially as it is written - even if the do save the vote until 2 or 3 in the morning when they are gone, sleeping or drunk... or attach it to something of dire importance. Even if they did squeak something through the Senate - it will never pass the House.

Would current owners be 'grandfathered' in; or would it become illegal to own a previously purchased banned weapon/large capacity magazine if this passes? Do they really think people will actually turn these in?!?

I bought my first 9mm S&W 910 when the Brady Bill was still active, so the magazines have plastic spacers limiting them to 10 rounds. I don't remember them 'collecting' large capacity magazines that were already out there, they just didn't sell them any more. As soon as the bill exired, I purchased full capacity magazines for it.

I have read the bill. Ban would include all rifles with AK or AR prefixes, pistols like the Ingram, and about a dozen shotguns of the Street Sweeper type. There is no confiscatory language in the bill, as I recall. The intent seems to be to dry up the supply.

However, I believe it's all moot. If they tried to pass the bill Monday in the democratically-controlled Senate it would fail. You can imagine the reception it would get in the House.

IF it happens & I don't think it will . If you own one of the weapons listed , according to the proposal you will be able to posses said weapon . Just no transfer , sales , lmport or manufacture . Having said that , I really don't see that happening . Relax.........

Not sure it is time to relax. It happened in 1994. Stranger things have happened, like Obama getting re-elected!

Well, they are not going to vote on it until they have spent at least a couple of months campaigning, bribing, blackmailing
