As a rule I do not like to see such legislation proposed, much less adopted.

But, following on NY bans of "assault weapons", "large capacity magazines", and the utter failure of their registration requirements (estimated about 15% compliance), it occurs to me that having a state such as New York attempt something like this could be instructional for the rest of the country. Basically, I suspect that the powers that be in Albany would encounter some unintended consequences when imposing such laws, such as:

1. More than a few police officials, particularly county sheriffs in rural areas, would refuse to enforce these laws, and some could publicly stand up against any attempts by state authorities to enforce.

2. Within the first few days of any enforcement campaign I would expect violent resistance at multiple locations.

3. It wouldn't surprise me if some communities organized defense committees and openly blocked enforcement.

4. Open armed rebellion would not be out of the question.

In short, some valuable lessons could be taught to those who would be our masters rather than our servants. Not very pretty, and certainly not desirable, but potentially very valuable.

"Then they urge it to be passed, quickly without debate, without scrutiny, without the public holding them accountable for it."

That is really messed up.

Happened a couple of years ago our present governor did that with the so called Safe Act, voting was in the middle of the night. ( we are doing our best to watch them much closer now) They know even in this peoples republic it would not make it if it went through normal procedures. Those down staters are all cut from the same rotten bolt of cloth!

Something to ponder.........

7 Ways That You (Yes, You) Could End Up On A Terrorist Watch List

One of every roughly 600 Americans....so far......oh wait, that's just 1 year.

"In 2013 alone, 468,749 watch-list nominations were submitted to the National Counterterrorism Center. It rejected only 1 percent.

I smell the nazi snitch network in motion for that list. Also, I never read the huff post and wouldn't believe them if it were raining outside if they said it was.

I read the linked article mentioned in the original post. I thought it might be interesting and informative. It's neither.

It's basically just an opinion piece, full of the typical the-gun-grabbers-are-coming-the-sky-is-falling inflammatory rhetoric.

The author talks about what a few state senators want to do, what they might propose...meaning what they might try to do. There is no specific bill about this in front of the New York state legislature. There is no Bill Number in either the House or Senate.

The author then drags out that old Hitler thing from eighty-odd years ago...that we've all read umpteen times.

The author says some of these legislators "must be removed from power without delay." Well, there's only one way to remove someone from office "without delay", and it's against the law, so again, just more hot air talk.

The New York senators want this (non-existent so far) legislation to pass immediately.Well, nothing's gonna pass "immediately"...the simple reason being that the New York Legislature isn't even in session right now. These elected officials know this and so does the author of this piece...they're just runnin' their mouth to stir up New York gun owners. The legislature will reconvene in January, and it does have carryover legislation, but the stuff talked about in this article isn't even a formal piece of legislation yet.

So an opinion/editorial piece from an obscure news source in one little New York county wants to get everyone all fired up over something that isn't even real yet. Why are we wasting forum space on this?

I have a beer sittin' around here someplace...

This in the state where the Speaker of the Assembly, Sheldon Silver was indicted, tried and convicted of corruption, the Senate Leader, Skelos, and his son also indicted tried and convicted on extortion and other corruption charges in the past year.

US Attorney Phreet Bahara has the third "man in the room" (governor) shaking in his shoes, and the rest of us awaiting our Christmas present.

So how has it managed to stand? How have they prevented THE PEOPLE from overturning it? Or is it just a case of nullification by non compliance?

NY city and a few bigger upstate cities are (my guess)about 10% of the state in size, but very high in population. FWIW many definitions of upstate, but with many people its one foot step beyond the NYC limits!

Some of it has gone through courts but most judges here are rather liberal leaning and the words "shall not be infringed" means nothing. Best bet their opinion of Infringed means a dangling string.

A couple things have been nullified but the majority of it still stands.

Its been through a bunch of courts but there is a couple more courts.

NYS is sort of unique in that it has an 8,000,000+ count(more if you include the immediate surrounding counties) cancer cell attached to it.
No state could be "free" having this tumor eating it's flesh and organs.
