The local Vet Hospital sponsored Fall Flu Shot Schedule is up their website, and probably is on the rest of them around the country--just show up--no charge for immunization--and something that everyone should get. Ours also offers pneumonia vaccine if you need it--also no charge. Jim

My wife and I both got shots last week. Mary didn't trust them either. Last year was her first year with the shot and her first year without the flu.

Flu shots

I quit for a while myself--they used to give you "weakened" live virus--they stopped that--only dead stuff now--not possible to get the flu from the shot. Since I started getting them again, I haven't had the flu--no guarantee, but a lot better than doing nothing.

I got a letter form the VA, if you have Medicare the VA will bill Medicare, Medicare will pay 20% and the VA charges you the remaining 80%. I have Tricare insurance which is from my Air Force Retirement and it is my second payer. I think I will be charged for the shot. It was free to Vets.

Back in the late Paleozoic (early 1950s) I used to get a flu shot and got the flu shortly thereafter. Didn't get one until the '90s; didn't even have a cold that year. I've got the shot ever since. Asked my Doc about it; he said that the flu shot probably bucked up the whole immune system which is why I didn't get a cold either. Apparently Medicare covers the cost.

Too many people are getting flu shots with positive results for people to still live in a cave and be afraid to get one. Put your big boy/girl pants on and get your flu shot. That way you being sick won't cost the rest of us money...

I thought it was free to all military I am a vet so I do get mine free. My wife is on medicare an she got hers free

I got mine today. It has become a normal thing for me to do each September. I'm 71 now and I don't want to strain my immune system/bodily functions by taking a chance on the flu. It's not necessary! Just get the shot and be worry free for another year. (Also, I don't kiss sick people).

I have COPD and bronchiectasis. Flu could put me out of business, so I get the shot, and the pneumonia shot every five years.

Got the flu shot yesterday, free at Walgreens due to my age and Medicare. Next I'm going to get the one-time shingles vaccine. It'll cost me because Medicare doesn't cover it; but if you're over 60 (I'm 75) it's strongly recommended. You do not want to get shingles.

KC VA

The Kansas City VA has the best deal! They have a drive thru flu shot tent. It's just like any drive thru except for the "little sting" part.

At one station they give you a short form to fill out. Move on to the tent, show your VA card, and they give you the shot.

I think that if a guy was careful and wore a short sleeved shirt, he could do it without completely stopping.

A great system.
