Miserable winter here in the Midwest, with an inch of ice on the roads, but that doesn't keep us from driving 45 miles to a gun auction. Auction is in a small town that is 45 miles from my home of 40,000, only 50 miles from the state capitol population over 100,000, and only about 75 miles from St Louis, MO.

Only 280 bidders registered, where last fall there were 400 bidders registered. But, the bidders there were willing to spend money.
The S&W that I recorded were:
K22 est. from 1956 in excellent condition non-relieved targets =$875.00.
Mod. 41 5 1/2" about 95%% = $1000.00.
66-2 probably police trade 4" about 85% = $475.00
19-4 4" about 75% but 3 T's = $500
29-2 6" Nickle, about 90% $725
17-3 good, not great, about 90% $675
K22, 4 Screw 3 T's, Non-relieved targets, = $850
Mod 67, polished out high gloss, stainless sights (both) stag grips = $650
Mod 41, cocking indicator, 5 1/2", = $850
K22, 5 Screw, Non-relieved targets, slight rust, 85% = $575
Mod 351 PD, airlight 22 Mag, = $575
Mod 34-1, (like new) = $625 ( I got that one)
Mod 629-4 Mountain gun 4", about 85% = $675
Mod 10-6, 4" about 80% = $300
Pre 10 rough, some rust little pitting, = $175
Pre Victory real rough, rusty, dirty, = $150
I pretty well felt the prices were about top in most cases.

There were a few unusual guns there also, A Ruger Hawkeye, almost new, $2000
Marbles game getter, 22/44 smooth bore, $1500
Colt SAA, 5 1/2", 1st generation, reasonably nice ? refinish, $2250.
Colt Viper, Nickle, unfired, $2900
Winchester Mod 42 field grade about 85% $1400
Belgian Browning A5 20ga Mag 95%+ $1800

There were 108 handguns and 250 long guns total, This is always an interesting auction, usually held twice a year.

Best part was I had a Remington 700 BDL, .308 Varmint in the auction and it brought $950. It was a nice one I was real pleased with the price.

Yes pretty strong prices, no real surprises. Thanks for that report! Glad your rifle sold well and you picked up a nice little cupcake! A flat latch with diamond grips??

No, a more recent one, 4" which will be a mate to my Mod63 for letting my granddaughters shoot. They loved the 63 when I took it out at Christmas time. I really wanted the 4 screw K22, and it did have a box that wasn't too beat up, but my bankroll ran out at $750 and it brought $850 and the way the bidding was going, if I could have bid on it would probably have gone > $1000.

There was an auction about an hour away from me this Saturday.

Not much of interest but I pushed a few things

686 (no dash) 8 3/8 with box, docs, tools, factory target grips and S&W sb finger grooves. The gun looked almost untouched. My friend bought it for around $725 out the door.

27-2 5" Had the box, docs, tools but the grips were a new pair of shooting star. The gun was nice, a faint turn line not through the blue. It had light rust spot hear and there, not major but enough to make me worried. I dropped out the next bid was $825. Plus 10% and sales tax 6.35% and a 3% credit card if you charge it. I was saddened not getting this but I cant see being in a over $1K

A surprise were two M10 a dash 7 and 9.

Well they turned out to be RHKP guns.

The -9 was nearly mint original grips, a brown card board box that has its serial on it, I guess from when it was resold? I got this one, $325 plus expenses.

The -7 was plated with Armalloy or something like it and rubber grips. Being a snob I passed, sold for $225 plus expenses.

A M41 7", Serial in the middle of the range. It was ok, one mag no box, broken and glued grip. My friend pushed it to$750 but it was one of a few guns with a reserve and it didnt make it.

Not much else of real interest, a 100 or so shot guns that were yucc and sold for $100 to 300.

A few ww2 rifles I had interest in had sky high reserves and didnt even come close, not even half of the reserve price was met.

Yet they had a Rockola M1 Carbine, mix master, wrong barrel, bayo lug, sanded stock, stamped rear sight. The auctioneer said "all original number matching" appraised at over $2K, sold for $1600 plus expenses. I thought to go $600

A Python, looked nice, didnt study it hard. Rubber grips nothing else. $1600 plus expenses and the buyer was tickled pink.

The few auctions I've been to thus far this year have been very strong in prices with a few exceptions, My friend recently bought a very nice M63 2" complete with numbered box and papers for around $475. However, the week before we attended an auction and saw a 4" 29-2 with half of its blue gone and wearing non original rubber grips sell for almost $700. It did have a presentation case but it too was in terrible shape, with all the flocking gone and filthy overall. The set looked like it went thru a fire. Go figure.
