It seems some knucklehead decides to shoot up the Federal Court House in Austin this morning.

He then drives to the Mexican Consulate, places some small propane tanks by the building, shoots these causing an explosion and fire.

This guy then drives to the front of the Austin Police Department Main HQ, and unloads over 100 rounds into the front doors and windows.

This is where the story gets good. It's now 2:30am and a Sgt. with our Mounted Patrol is loading 2 horses into their trailer after a long nights works. While holding the reins of two horses with his left hand, he pulls his Smith/Wesson MP40 with his right hand, and drops bad guy.

End of story.

Been a few of these lone wolf attacks on law enforcement lately... Seems people are getting more and more angry with police actions.

I don't know what to tell you Larry.

A number of those small propane cylinders where found at the scene, bullet holes in all of them, burned.

Just reporting what the Police Chief and the Fire Department spokesman said.

Some fools always have an axe to grind. The wonderful, unbiased, totally fair and impartial popular media  has done a great job of making ALL police in the US look like highly militarized SS out to 'get everyone'. Virtually everyone with a brain knows that is not the case, but the constant diatribes by the media and brainless bloggers with an agenda do a lot of perception damage.

When was the last time anyone on this forum was pulled over by an APC? Or the last time you called the police for ANY reason did a BDU clad-ASSAULT RIFLE toting commando show up? The reality is unless your call was in fact a SWAT incident from the start, you likely got a pretty standard beat cop in a very common uniform driving the mundane police cruiser or SUV. My dept has over 700 sworn officers, about 30 of them are full time SWAT. How pray tell are they just 'everywhere' like the media would have everyone believe?

What we are seeing right now is very similar to the anti establishment BS that occurred in the 60's. Ask any coppers from those days and they'll tell you there's a lot similarity. The difference now in my opinion is that the perp's are crazier and a lot STUPIDER! Popular media and social media no doubt fuels the "15 min of fame syndrome".

By the way, good shooting by the cop cowboy!!

You are very right, but it's been building for a while . Remember that rancher in Nevada that the police swarmed and took his cattle? Seems the media played that up for all the hate and discontent they could. Shortly after had the same kinda lone wolf shooting go on.

Sometimes it seems to be a pattern?

Edited to add, the sixties had everyone stirred up over the draft and Vietnam. People didn't like the whole situation and it was a different world in those days.

You are also seeing more TV coverage of each and every event. Every body has a camera and every station has 24 hours to fill. An event that lasts 1 hour will get a week of coverage, then a week of coverage of the coverage. You get to see every event in the world if you want. What used to be a 1 inch filler in the newspaper is now a couple of minutes in the TV. Makes it harder to believe that violence levels are decreasing in the US when you get to watch riots in Egypt, India, China, and soccer in England.

We set them near the campfire to build up pressure then pop them with tracers. BIG BOOM! I've seen one pound cans turned inside out and the big ones go off like Hiroshima.

I can understand the explosion if they are heated up. If heated enough they will explode.I can also understand how one would go off if it had a hole in it while sitting beside an open flame. The heat and open flame is what is causing them to explode. I have also shot cans of gasoline and couldn't get an explosion. I haven't ever shot any with tracers but one of my friends told me he shot several propane and gasoline tanks with tracers and couldn't get one to explode. Another TV myth is the burning dynamite explosion. Burning dynamite will not explode. Larry

My guess is two possibilities. The Police Chief and the Fire Department Spokesman didn't tell it right or the best guess is I don't know what I am talking about. :D Larry

I heard about this yesterday and couldnt believe my ears. Since that legalization thing passed--ill bet thats one of his reasons for shooting at the Consulate was?. Glad nobody else was hurt.

How??? I have shot unknown how many propane tanks and never had one to explode. Larry

Maybe he used some of that explosive they sell--when making a pop--into a real BANG??? I forget what that stuff is called? but apparantly any person can buy it...
