I was just reading the Tyler T-Grip thread and another user suggested with the shrinking market in revolvers and younger people wanting autos new t-grips may be a thing of the past.

That got me thinking about the demographics of the revolver users that look at this board.

I myself am probably one of the younger forum members at 28. Most of my family has law enforcement backgrounds, so I have grown up with service revolvers. When I finally was able to purchase my own handgun, there was little doubt in my mind it would be a 686.

Admittedly I am in the minority with my peers on what types of handguns we own. Modern Polymers are par for the course with the twenty something's. Not that they are bad, I like Glocks, owned one for a time, but I prefer revolvers.

So I wanted to know what the average age of the people on this board.

I love my S&W revolvers, but most any revolver will do, such as single action Rugers. No plastic guns in my safe, everything is steel such as a few 1911s and a second gen 639.
Age: 61

Where is 40?

Well, my age is missing, so I voted for 41 :)

I only recently began to appreciate the care and attention to detail that went into the Smith and Wesson revolvers that I collect (.44 Magnums from 1956 to the early 1970s). Most of my 20+ years of collecting has been focused on military weapons and auto-loading pistols. I confess that I still have a few Glocks that I enjoy shooting. But, only my .44 Magnums are truly appreciated by me and my family. Everything else I own is basically a tool, though some are expensive tools.

my dad was a coffee table ffl in the 70's.he had friends in LE and sold alot to them. back then all law enforcement carried wheelie guns. it was a common occurance to get off the bus and have hi-po and a police cruiser in the driveway. i learned to shoot with revolvers and have tried those new fangled square guns but alway go back to the classics.i still have a few semis but don't shoot them often.

i'm 45, my name is darren, is there where the revolver addicts meet?

I labelled myself in the 70 -79 group. I'm 79, but next Sunday (Yup, Easter) is my 80th birthday -- so I'm on the cusp. I have three revolving pistols (as Samuel Colt called his inventions in numerous patents. THEY ARE PISTOLS, children). In order of seniority, a JC Higgins .22 nine-shooter purchased new in 1955; an S&W 637 .38sp five shooter bought new about ten years ago; and an S&W 686+ .357 seven shooter bought used but never fired about five years ago. Observe: none of these six shooters -- are six shooters!

I have other handguns, but as autoloaders they don't fit in this thread.

Cordially, Jack

I happen to represent the spectrum well. The first handgun I ever shot was the New Frontier that my mom gave my dad for Christmas in the mid 70s. My brother has the gun, but I still have the leather gunbelt. Started my collection with 1911s and some Sigs. Picked up a few Colt single action .22s, but my main inventory is in the SW revolvers. Love me some 17s,18s, 34s, 63s, 19s, 629s, 29s, and 27s. I have my share of autos, but they almost all have threaded barrels so I can thread my NFA items on the end. Nothing like playing 'Jason Bourne' one day and 'Josie Wales' the next.

I have 2 kids (a boy and girl) and they are always bringing friends around to the lake. I always have 4-6 guns every weekend to play with and the revolvers are always a huge hit. I explain to them that the revolvers are 'art' and they really seem to get it....once they wipe the grin off their face.:)

I'm not buying it. I think after the decline of service revolvers in the 80's, the revolver market stabilized. It might even be growing with the advent of so many "shall issue" concealed carry states.

Semi-automatic pistols have been the front line sidearm for decades but nothing is better than an Airweight J frame in the contact fighting zone (in my humble opinion of course :)).

21-29 here. I shoot both, but other than my 1911 I prefer revolvers.

Pushin 57 and it's pushin back.Got 2 semi's and 7 or 8 revolvers.Love shooting all but the revolvers get a lot more range time. They're alot prettier too.And the brass is a lot easier to pick up.Yeah I really think of that.Old.

Guess I'm in the younglin crowd here. 29, but turning 30 later this year.

Ya' ought to ask that question up on the 1896 to 1961 forum, those guys were BORN in 1896....

I bet they were around BEFORE model numbers on S&W's!

(OK... time for the flames!)

I'm 51. I learned to shoot with revolvers, and I still prefer them. However, in times past, I have carried a semi-auto, and I'm not against it now, I just prefer wheel guns. The first big handgun I shot was when I was 10, we lived in a logging camp in SE Alaska, and I got to shoot my neighbor's S&W M1917, in .45 ACP. Then my dad bought a Ruger Blackhawk .41 Mag. when I was 11. A year later I could shoot it better than he could, or any of his friends.

I have a friend who I've shot with since we were both 18, and he prefers Glocks. Go figure!

Im 33 years old and while I am looking forward to ordering a new S@W 1911 E-Series, my true love is the wheelguns....

I love that there's at least one 80 year old.I shoot with many seasoned citizens. These guys have forgotton more than most will ever know.God Bless them.

59, will be 60 in July. Learned to shoot with a revolver when I was young and haven't strayed to from them ever since.

Guess I'm an anomaly. I'm 69 & the first guns I ever shot were semiautos. 1903 Colt .32 & Colt Woodsman .22.

59, will be 60 in Feb.

I have a model 60 and my favorite...the model 66 which is the same model that I carried on duty many many moons ago.

I have some of the XDm models by Springfield but they have no soul next to my Smith.

I'm only able to vote in the 41-49 bracket for a few more months. I began with long guns as a boy (with my uncle, dad is still not a gun guy), and never fired a handgun until I was nearly 40. I love my revolvers!

If my father-in-law were voting, he'd be the second guy in the 80+ category. He'll be 88 in November and a sweet 1976 Ruger 4" Police Service Six is his only handgun.

Well my age is 67 but that is not why I shoot S&W revolvers along with my many semi auto Sigs,1911's, and two S&W model 41's. I keep sharp with semi auto's because as a former army combat soldier I believe that capacity is an issue and my carry guns and home defense weapons are all semi auto. That said I love to shoot S&W revolvers at the range and I consider one a tool and the other a work of art. I shoot the semi's enough to stay sharp buy I enjoy the revolvers much more.
