Please keep this about ideas, otherwise I'm off for an "unearned vacation." With all the bluster about BC's, universal or otherwise, I can't see the solution (I know exactly what the problem is). My experience: We have had an FFL background check, with and without a "waiting period" in Florida since 1991, almost 30 years. From '91-'95 as an 01 FFL, I'd call the 800#, give the name of purchaser, and whether it was a long gun or handgun (different age requirements). Usually, unless your name was John Smith, I'd get an approval in a minute. That's it. The legislature put safeguards against "record retention" ordering deletion within a short time. I figure If'n the powers that be opened it up to the public, some would be willing to call an 800#, give the name on the FLORIDA license, state long or handgun, get the approval (or not) and keep the unique # (containing only info that it was an approval or not) generated instead of a "bill of sale" for a personally owned firearm.
I'm not suggesting this is a good idea but I get so tired of hearing ignorant fools hating on gun owners I certainly would be listening to any idea that gets this to stop while not leading to records, buybacks, bans and eventually confiscation which is the current goal.
Hope I'm not stepping in it. Joe

There’s already a thread in the 2A forum about the Bipartisan Background Check Act of 2019 (HB 8), which passed the House and has stalled in the Senate. That’s where discussion about background checks belong.
