I just bought two boxes of CCI 22WMR HP ammo at a local gun show. When I got home, I attempted to test fit it in my S&W Model 51 and only about 45 of 100 rounds would drop into the cylinder recess. It looks like the lot no. is "E25R25". The oversize rounds can be forced into place, but then the ejector jams, so using them is not an option. Any suggestions on how to dispose of the bad rounds would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would spend a buck or so and call CCI/Speer and let them know what is going on. They might want to have you send the defective ammo back and you will probably get a full box in return. Worth a try.

Has anyone shot .22LR's or .22WRF's in the revolver per chance in the past? I know that I cannot shoot magnums in my model 48 after shooting .22 WRFs until I brush it out very good.
Do you have any other .22 Magnum pieces to see if they work in them?
Also, .22Magnums do tend to be very, very dirty, so try a brush on a drill with lots of solvent.

Try cleaning the cylinders. 22WMR are a snug fit. It don't take much to foul it up.
Thanks for the help. I cleaned the cylinders before loading. I had two boxes of fifty, and only 45 of 100 would load properly. The rim did not drop in, but could be pushed in by hand. Once the brass was inserted it was very difficult to eject the shells. Also, the gun looks unfired, it may be new, I just bought it today. The defective brass looked slightly thicker around the rim. The good brass loaded easily. Thanks, again.
bad ammo replaced
I contacted CCI/Speer about the bad ammo, and they suggested I return the product to them for examination. After reviewing the returned ammo, they contacted me and said it all passed their quality control proceedures. They also returned 3 boxes of 50 to me to cover my loss and shipping expense. Every replacement piece fit flawlessly. I think the old ammo was out of round at the bullet, as I could roll it in my caliper and get different size readings from the same bullet. Anyway, CCI/Speer went above and beyond with a great attitude and solved the problem.

I had the same problem with a box of Federal .22 Magnum. The rounds would not chamber in my model 48. I had another box with a different lot number and they would chamber just fine. The rounds were slightly longer
than the other box but would chamber in a single six.
I have tried every brand available in the 48 and only this one lot would not fit
