The wife wants to know if there is anything to the pens that are supposed to help prevent check fraud.Is there something special about the ink??

Might be the ink gets in the paper, and the check can't be "washed" for fraud.

I have a simple method of preventing check fraud. I don't write checks anymore. Everything is cash, debit card or electronic payment.
If you are willing to move up to fountain pens, Noodler's Ink has several inks they call "bulletproof", which are supposed to be fraud resistant

Gel inks
It is my understanding that Gel ink is not kiteable or easy for a forger to remove without destroying the substrate.Gel ink is a semi liquid form of ink where ball point ink is a paste.
However any pen that will accept a parker style ball point refill can be refilled with a gel refill. Parker , Itoya, Schmidt,Yafa and Private Reserve all make gel refills.
Any good pen store will have these but if you cannot find one try Montblanc & Mont Blanc fountain pens, Parker Pens, Waterman pens.

Penmon; thank you you answered my question.She just wanted to know what was different in the ink.
I use the BIC Velocity Gel on legal documents because it is difficult to smear and even harder to change a signature.
I rather use a fountain pen but the Velocity Gel writes better and gives an element of protection against fraud.
