Ballistics gel - anyone make their own?

have any of you made your own ballistics gel? or have a substitute? I would like to try and make some and see how it turns out. I have some plated hollow points from RMR and I'm curious to see how they work.

Hahahaha this is a funny story...I tried one with a buddy, he is a Chemical engineer now (this was his senior year of college my junior) and I am a Micro/Chem major, we were feeling cocky and like we knew it all. We bought enough jello to fill an underbed storage thing, and rubber cement A LOT of rubber cement. We figured 1/3 rubber cement, 2/3 jello. It did set somehow? But when we shot it, it was a MESS!! Fell apart from the shock, good thing we were in the desert...I hope no critters ate that stuff looking back.

Next time you do this put a few cans of fruit cocktail in the mix and take a video of it when you shoot it.....and post it up here.

You might try oat meal. Make it a little on the dry side and when it sets up it just may work.

The actual instructions for calibrated ballistic gel are rather anal and it probably will be both difficult and expensive.

My ex-wife had a Jello mold recipe that would be suitable for the purpose, I'll see if I can get it for you.

I understand it is excellent for pistol caliber testing. High powered rifle . . . not so much.
