With the possible ban on selling large sugary drinks a real possibility, Double Stuff Oreo cookies could be next.

Schools could ban children who pack their own lunches from bringing Double Stuff Oreo cookies in their lunch boxes.

However, a workable Double Stuff Oreo can be fashioned by splitting two regular Oreos and putting the halves with the stuffing together.

Schools will have to appoint lunchroom Oreo police to ensure that grade school kids do not make contraband cookies.

Three days ago was a news story about national obesity. Yesterday was national donut day. I'm stunned to utter stupidity.......................Flies cause garbage, pencils cause bad spellers. guns cause crime......................................Anyone got a tall chair and a short piece of rope? That's it!! Anarchy!! I'm going to Costco for a CASE of Oreos!!!! Anyone with a truck and a credit card follow me........................................

I always described myself as "Rough and tough and made of Double Stuff, like an Oreo Cookie". Now I suppose that could be construed as assault.
Now I'll NEVER be PC!

I've said it all along - the problems with the world today, the moral decay of society, the violence, the crime, the national debt, the illegal immigration, earthquakes, floods, volcanos, and tsunamis, ALL of it can be blamed on those damned sodas!
It's about time that one of the greatest leaders of our time had the fortitude to deal with this ongoing problem!

Right now Diabetes hits 1 in 10 Americans. Projections show 1 in 3 by 2050. In 1998 the cost to the US Government was $98 Billion when the rate was "only" 1 in 13.

Juvenile Diabetes is expected to double by 2020 from 2000 rates.

Folks demand that we cut costs for Medicaid and Medicare and that we reduce healthcare costs.

That 64oz Big Gulp of Coke is over 600 all sugar Calories or 1/3 of a normal person's daily caloric intake.

It's kinda like a friend of mine who loved the freedom of riding his motorcycle and was the loudest protester if "The Man™" demanded that he wear a helmet or if "The Man™" demanded that he get health insurance. Now, "The Man™" [that would be all of us] will be paying all of his medical bills for the next couple of decades because he is pretty much jell-o due to his head meeting the pavement at only 9 MPH.

This suggests that you can't blame the flies, pencils or guns [and I assume spoons or big gulps].

At some point look at the addictive additives loaded into softdrinks.

But an interesting read is this thread on this forum. It is not just "those people". It is 40%+ of all of us.

I used to have all sorts of self destructive habits, illegal drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, etc.
At some point, I had to look at MYSELF as the cause of all of that nonsense. ME. Nobody ever forced that stuff on me, I did it all myself.
When I got tired of that lifestyle, I took appropriate actions to clean up. I quit drugs 14 years ago, quit drinking 10 years ago, and quit tobacco/nicotine 4 years ago (I'm NOT giving up my coffee!). I didn't need the government to dictate to me, I needed the hand of God and willingness to change.
What this country needs is the return of personal responsibility and a moral compass.
It is not up to the government to make us act right. That is up to the individual.

Absolutely! Every time you give the government more freedom to invade your life you lose more of your own.
And coffee freedom should be in the bill of rights. :)

AND - A lot of car accidents result in head injuries.
You drive or ride in a car you should wear a helmet....
Why not a law MAKING you wear one?

Oh and how about pizza --- Bad juju there - BAN IT - It's for the children don't ya know.
OOOO - Birthday cake -- Lot's o' sugar there too.

Give me a break ---
You want a good law? How about we cut out the *free* medical care?
Drink all the Big Gulps you want - Or not --- We told you what they'll do to you it's your decision & YOUR MONEY.

I think Hillbilly77 deserves a resounding round of applause from all on the Forum.

May you continue to be open to receiving strength from God.

This has been happening. Saw several articles in the news. Kids lunches brought from home do get 'inspected' and rated for nutritional value. If they fall short , the kid gets items from the cafeteria , the parents get a bill and meeting with child welfare people.

So be careful about cutting the crust off those PBJ sammwiches.

Mary Poppins, oops I mean Mayor Poppins said those sodas had over 600 calories in them and that by limiting sodas to 16oz rather than 32oz, people probably won't order two sodas and thereby limiting calorie intake. That night ABC reported that one margarita had 750 calories. And how many people drink just one margarita where you have sugar, salt and alcohol. Wow if Nanny Bloomberg could do something about stuff like that he could strike a blow against high blood pressure (salt), diabetes (sugar) and alcohol. Oh wait. They already tried that from 1920 to 1933.

Never mind.

CW
P.S. Maybe I shouldn't have called him Mary Poppins. After all didn't she say, "a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down." I guess Nanny Michael will ban that movie now.

I read on the net somewhere, so it must be true, that airbags caused higher insurance rates because folks who would have generally been killed were surviving crashes with severe lower body injuries requiring much more extensive medical treatment and rehab than a corpse.

I feel like getting hopped-up on Kool-aid!!! Guess I'll give my keys to the woman and chug a few glasses..............look out world!! I think we could all use a little guidance every now and then, but not by means of yet another law. Self responsibility needs to be in place. Live by the sword.....................
