Obama has not banned anything....just talk thus far.

Yes, you can still by an AR-15 platform rifle as long as you have no state/local regulations preventing you from doing so.

Thanx for the info I appreciate it. By the way what's a great reasonabley price ar-plat form

At this time get what you can afford. I bought the m&p15t for MSRP. Pays to be a regular at LGS but with everything going on, there is no reasonable anymore.

If you get lucky its possible to still get one for MSRP but depends on your area and while its possible its not likely. Most AR's are currently going between $1,200-$1,800 with $1,500 being around the average.

I got my 15T for a bit above msrp, but ive seen a few dpms goin for around 1000 where i thought they used to be closer to 700... realistically, ur prob gonna pay a little bit of markup with todays frenzied climate, but if u shop around and watch for a couple weeks u will see where u need to be...DONT just rush and grab one...they are out there, just gotta be found... :)

Sounds like you need to do a lot more research before you do anything. Like the others have said, there is no ban and one is not likely to pass. Deals can still be had if you take the time to look. I believe it was just last month (definitely in the middle of the madness) that my buddy got a M&P Sport for $799.

Watch the political commentary on open threads...mods dont approve...u can generally refer to a ban as it affects our ownership/purchase of said rifles, just dont start signing petitions to march on washington or they will have ur a55...as far as what to purchase in a rush, buy mags now if anything while u shop for the rifle...its more likely, by most people i have discussed it with, that a ban on hi cap mags is way more likely than a ban on any particular type of rifle...get em while u can, and wait for the right AR at the right price to make that jump...good luck...

I got a Sport yesterday for msrp $839

I would love to find one around here for that price. Our local WM had an AR for like two hours a week ago. I don't know what brand it was. AR's around here are going for $1500-$3000 new or used. I already have a sport but I would like another one. My son has said that it was his since it matched his 1522. Oh well, I am patient and I will wait. I am not spending the big money to buy one that originally cost $700-$1000.:) I already have enough AR's, but I still would like to have another S&W.

I must apologize but the way you are phrasing your questions is different. Do you have any experience with guns? We prefer the term "modern sporting rifle" when referring to our rifles. Although some members do own "AR's". It just seemed that you are approaching it in a manner of someone without a lot of firearm experience. I wouldnt want to head you down the wrong track.:D

Oh cmon flyer...tell us ur thoughts...lol...flyer is a mechanical engineer im betting (just a deduction from other posts...i may be way off...but hes smart)...

OP,

If you find a decent AR15 for a reasonable price and you can afford to buy it, then buy it. I consider a reasonable price to be pre-panic pricing. If possible, bring a friend or family member who has AR15 experience (experience building an AR from parts a plus) with you to evaluate and inspect the rifle you wish to purchase.

Ya know ....... I never though of it that way ... AR meaning "the anti-gun definition".
I always though it being just the designation that the original Mfg gave it .... I.E. AR = Armalite Rifle, AR10, AR15 etc. and so easy to write .... 'AR'.

But I do see your point.
It doesn't really matter what it was originally, if the "cult of personalities" has redefined it in the consciousness of the masses.

I'll try to stop using it here from now on, and do as you have suggested Grover ....
Keep in mind though ........ you guys will have even 'MORE' of my words to read ("modern sporting rifle" vs. AR)!!! ;)

Hmmmmm, hopefully MSR will catch on if we all push it.

Ive often wondered why those Dems like to call my AK an "Assault Rifle". I mean its not like it carries the acronym AR, lol. Stupid Dems whats wrong with them trying to make the AK appear like an evil black rifle. =-)
