Ban

If LE is carrying them, CNN calls them "high powered rifles". But in the hands of civilians....

Sorry, not political commentary, just an observation of a news outlet.

Now is not the time to buy an MSR.

The best advice is to wait for a few months for everything to get back to normal.

Uh, that's just in Minnesota. If the feds pass a ban, yer still *****'d. :(

Agreed:mad:
But if a state like MN realizes that a full ban won't work, I'm sure there are other politician's that don't want to jeopardize their jobs either. Right now there are only proposals on the table. Nothings been voted on. Gut feeling is that there will be a restriction on mag size, expanded background checks and closing loopholes at gun shows. And possibly a 7-10 day waiting period.

I read that Texas is banning Beans in chili now. It never stops. If they want my beans, I say, Come and take them!

Nah, we never banned beans in chili, it's just that no real Texan would ever put beans in chili....it's looked upon as poorly as putting ketchup or A-1 on a steak!

Ive often wondered why those Dems like to call my AK an "Assault Rifle". I mean its not like it carries the acronym AR, lol. Stupid Dems whats wrong with them trying to make the AK appear like an evil black rifle. =-)
Keep in mind, lest we forget, the AR designation is Fairchild Aviation Corporation's Armalite Rifle built on the Eugene Stoner design.
My ARs are all DDDs: Domestic Defense Devices. Today, anyway.
Tomorrow they may be reclassified as Boom-sticks. It all depends.

To the OP: If you are in NY or CA, you already have no choice or limited choice. If this is the gun you want to have, move someplace else.

On nomenclature, I tend to use the phrase "military style sporter." If I want to mess with the heads of gun control advocates who persist in calling them assault rifles despite the fact that they are not, I use the term "milcrips." That stands for "crippled military rifle," because a service rifle without selective fire capacity has been crippled. I guess you could also call them half-assault rifles, which permits an obvious contraction that would further offend those who are interested in making them seem as toxic and dangerous as possible, but sometimes you have to call something by an undistinguished name with the goal of increased understanding.

Abe Lincoln story: Lincoln is talking to his cabinet and no one is agreeing on what the situation is, let alone what to do about it.

Lincoln, frustrated, asks bluntly, "Gentlemen, how many legs does a horse have?"

The others agree on this, at least: "It has four, Mr. President."

Lincoln responds, "And if I call its tail a leg, how many legs does it have?"

"Why, five, Mr. President."

And Lincoln strikes: "Wrong! It has four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one!"

Wish we had more Lincolns making policy for us today. Or, failing that, at least a few policy makers who would understand the point of the story.

Aterthought on terminology

Perhaps they could be called "ergonomically designed GP (general purpose) rifles," which almost makes them sound as though they had been OSHA certified.

Sounds like you need to do a lot more research before you do anything. Like the others have said, there is no ban and one is not likely to pass. Deals can still be had if you take the time to look. I believe it was just last month (definitely in the middle of the madness) that my buddy got a M&P Sport for $799.

I think some Modern Sporting Rifles are going to start dropping in price before too long. Some of those people making the mad dash to get that first one failed to realize they only recieved 1 mag with the weapon (IF any) and ZERO ammo. :D They can't find mags or even ammo to put in the mags or mags to put in the weapon (catch 22 :D ). The waiting lists for both (mags & ammo) have turned from Back Ordered to Not Available. So some of the very impatient ones are going to start dumping them for a loss or trading for a loss. Once they are out the door fired or not, most will be considered used and worth less. Then the soon to get divorce papers served when CC bills start coming in or the un-discovered one that's been hid and found... There's going to be some couch sleepers out there. ."YOU PAID HOW MUCH for ONE mag" Yikes !!!
