Barami hip grip j frame

I pocket carry a j frame and was wondering if any members had any experience with the barami hip grip? I have a tyler t grip to go with it and would use it with a 442-1 if I got them

I sometimes miss having both front pockets. These grips would give me the option to carry IWB.

Any feedback or observations on these grips are appreciated.

While I don’t typically carry it, I do keep one of my J-frames configured this way. I combine the grip with a Tyler T and an upside-down Hogue “HandALL.” Grips are *highly* personal choices, but this works. What I like most about it, aside from the flexible carry options, is that the hook forces my trigger finger outward, which makes it easier for me to get a “straight back” trigger stroke with my longer-than-average index finger.

Back when I still had my 642 it wore a Desantis “Clip Grip.” If I had to choose between the two, I might go that route instead.

I’d suggest giving it a go. The worst thing that could happen is that you find you hate it, but it won’t cost much to try.

I thinks it's smart to use a good fitting holster that covers the triggerguard. A holster protects you from possible injury, protects your clothes and it protects the gun from sweat.

Many years ago, I used a Barami (original right side only) on my Model 40, with a Tyler. I found it very secure and very concealable for carry, and considered it safe. However, my fingers are a little shorter than the OP's, so I didn't like having my trigger finger forced out. The gun was definitely still usable, but not optimum. I don't use the Barami now.

Many years ago I had one on a Colt Detective Special. After removing it for cleaning on Range days it broke. Can’t remember if it was that cheap or I was that careless.

I carried the blued 49 as my 2nd for 20 years then got the 649.
When I started carrying the 649 I put a Barami on the 49 to make it my quick grab and go .38. I've since replaced the aluminum Tyler T with a black BK.

My experience is that in some pockets there may be a bulge that can be detected but using a hip grip is super discreet. Let your shirt blouse out over the grip. Before I knew about the Barami hip grip I would tape a popsicle stick to the grip. Larry

I had a Nickeled Model 12 and I blame the “acne” on the frame and side cover on the Barami grip. At least with a holster there is a buffer between the metal and body moisture.

Might still have a pair floating around, but I never cared much for them and only used it for a few weeks.

Got them and love it

So got the barami hip grips off ebay NIB cheap. Added it to my 442-1 with a tyler t grip. It took me about a day to get used to IWB carry as it was surprisingly comfortable. I did carry without a holster but I don’t want to expose it too much to sweat and not comfortable not having the trigger covered. I had an old Sticky pocket holster that works great.

It’s so nice having full use of my pockets and I can draw it from a sitting position. Cylinder sits below the belt so just a small grip above the waistline. I’ve been wearing it for a few days.

For me they work especially well hooked to the side of a front pocket, then covered with an untucked shirt.

I don't feel the need for a holster that covers the trigger on a J frame revolver with a 12 pound trigger pull.

With it hooked to the front pocket, you can easily and discreetly unhook it and drop it deeper into the pocket when more concealment is needed. They are slick so I added a chunk of bicycle inner tube.

I still have a Barami Hip Grip I've had still sealed in the package for probably over ten years. I had a set on a j frame and liked it so picked up another set for another j frame, but never installed them. I thought the Hip Grip made the j frame easy to carry and concealed well, but just got around to pocket holsters and quit using it.

I remember a grizzly senior FBI man about 30 yrs ago who used one with a S&W J frame outfitted with a Tyler. That was his visible go to gun when he needed fast access to iron. His primary gun he carried strong side on his hip. I think this is that era when the Barami was most in vogue as the latest accessory.
Me as just a casual observer & non LEO but a gun guy, to me he was a lawman looking for an edge to stay alive & retire. Any slight advantage real or imaginary he was going to have that edge on his side.

Yes it gives you instant access and if you ask me, that is an unbeatable feature.
