Yesterday just for the heck of it I went to my local Cabelas "Lacey,WA" to see if things had changed in a couple months. They had. The shelves for pistol ammunition were so bare they put empty ammo boxes on the shelves as space fillers. Last time in they had some of the home defense rounds and other high end types but now almost nothing. They had 10 boxes of .45 long colt, .327 and .357 sig. That was it. Pretty scary.

I am glad I have enough to feel pretty comfortable but geez this is bad. They did have a fair selection of pistols and the used gun racks were back to normal.

I went to the "local" Cabelas in Louisville KY today, it's the grand opening weekend.
All kinds of ammo available except .22 cal, with a 5 box or 100 round limit. One of the sales people told me the place has only been open two days, but the first customers through the doors go for the rimfire ammo first.

I'm ashamed to say it, but I bought the limit of 5 boxes of PMC brass 223 @ $9.99 a box of 20.
I already had plenty of 556/223 rounds on hand. :)
I didn't need $50 worth of Mini-14 ammo - I hadn't SEEN ammo TO buy in so long I couldn't help it.

It's the same at my closest Cabella's (Marysville WA). One thing I did notice was stacks and stacks of 7.62 x 39 ammo, I'm thinking about adding another rifle to my collection (or maybe a different upper for my AR).;)

They did have rifle ammo but I did not look very close. I guess I am part of the problem becuase if they had some pistol ammo in calibers I could use I would have bought some. I don't really need any but this situation makes me a bit uncomfortable.

I remember going in just before Christmas and buying a few boxes. What was funny is that I wanted a certain brand and a certain bullet weight. Boy are things different now!

Yeah, even my Cabela's in Reno, NV was picked pretty clean. They had reduced their new pistol cases down by a couple, selection not wonderful. I did see that independent gun store had ammo to sell, they were limiting purchases to 2 boxes.

WENT by Walmart today, they had zero of the popular rounds. HOWEVER, I thought why not check out the price stickers to see what they are charging....MOST ammo was about the same or a little higher than prior December 2012 pricing, EXCEPT .22 LR... Winchester bulk, the 555 box which had been about $21.99, was now priced at $48.99. I could say more, but it Sunday.

The Columbus OH Cabelas sold out after the first couple weeks. There was a local store called vances selling 9mm limit two and they have now sold out as well. Anywhere else I look is sold out. Seems to me the shortage is getting worse.

Walmart and Cabela's are the most shopped stores out there. I do better at the local shops. I took this pic at one recently.

I went to Cabela's in Allen, TX yesterday morning & was at the right place at the right time - they were stocking the ammo shelves. Was able to pick up 5 50 round boxes of 9 mm target ammo at more than I like to pay - $14.99/box, but better than nothing. Same thing happened at the same Cabela's about 2 weeks ago.

Are you sure that wasn't for the Winchester M-22's at $48. 99? No store on the app is listing the 555's for that price but the M-22's are- 1000 rds.

Vances is out of 9mm but plenty of 40 cal as well as .38, .357 and some .223

Are u sure that wasn't taken in 2010!!! ;)

It's still like that. Their prices are a few dollars higher than last year, but not outrageous like some stores.

I went back to that store today and bought more 9mm. I got back to work and a co-worker bought it from me. While I was at the store, I had to take a wiz. The bathroom is at the end of a long hall at the back of the store. I was surprised to see that the hall was full of stacks of ammo on both sides that was about 4 feet high. I snapped these pictures of the .223 and 9mm stacks.

Where is that place? And how much is that .223?

There isn't a Cabelas around here but the Bass Pro hasn't had handgun ammo for a couple months not. The only ammo they do have is the high dollar rifle hunting rounds.

It's in Orem Utah. The .223 is the Federal American Eagle Tactical. It is $10.99 for a box of 20. I didn't buy any. I have lots of .223 and thought that was a bit high priced.

The Cabela's in Allen,TX just got a load shipment of CCI 22LR 100 rounds Mini mag for $8.99 each but limited to 1 per person.
