I have a M19-3 with a 4" barrel and I am considering changing it to a 2 1/2" barrel for CC. I'm looking for instructions/advice on how to do it? Is this something any experienced smith could do or is it a factory job? I consider myself fairly handy with various tools etc, could/should I even attempt it myself or is there some serious pitfalls I am unaware of that may cost or hurt me? Overall, my biggest concern is messing up my revolver. So, as mentioned I'm open to suggestions. Thanks~!

Well, I'm not a gunsmith but can do ordinary disassembly for cleaning and inspection. I consider a barrel change way out of my league because it requires buying or making special tools to unscrew the barrel without twisting the frame, and then the new barrel may require machine work to get the B/C gap correct.
Due to the cost and risk, I'm not a big fan of removing perfectly good revolver barrels if I can swap guns for the same or less. Also nothing wrong with having 2 model 19s.

IF you have access to a lathe or a Brownells barrel setback fixture the barrel change should be straight forward.... then you will need a barrel facing tool to adjust the barrel to cylinder gap...and a forcing cone reamer to recut the forcing cone... oh there is a special plug gauge the you will also need to ensure that the forcing cone diameter and depth are correct.
Unless you are going to do a few... or just enjoy doing stuff yourself and don't mind springing for the tools... find yourself a good gunsmith and let them do the job for you.

Thanks for the information. "Nothing wrong with having two model 19's." Amen to that ~!
