Question on reciprocity

I have CCP issued in Texas.
We are moving to Wyoming. No problem. Wyoming recognizes Texas permit and I just renewed it last year.
Let's say I want to purchase a firearm in Wyoming. Will my Texas CCP be recognized so as to bypass the background check and possibility of waiting period?
Secondly, four year from now will Texas renew my license in another state?
Or do I need to get another CCP in Wyoming?
I will find out in a couple of months on two of the questions but thought someone might already know the answer.

First, most states that use a CCW as a purchase permit and or waive the Brady requirements only provide those privileges to a CCW permit issued by that state.

Second, check your state's laws but here in NC I am required to notify the sheriff in the issuing county of my change of address within 30 days after I move. If I moved to WY, I would no longer have a resident permit. They may or many not convert it to a non resident permit. I've never checked.

Most states will have similar address change and residency requirements. The reason for that is that if you were to become a prohibited person they'd want to be able to notify you that your permit has been revoked and that you need to surrender it.

Realistically, its never going to be an issue unless a state checks to see if your permit is still valid. What might prompt them to do that? Your CCW permit not matching the address on your VDL. And when they advise the prior state of your new address, you're potentially in violation of the law and would be subject to revocation and possible misdemeanor charges.

Furthermore, in many states the CCW permit is tied to the VDL, so when your new state issues a new VDL they notify the prior state in accordance with an interstate compact who then cancels the old VDL, and potentially the old CCW permit. Which means you could be carrying an invalid permit after you move and not know it.

BB57 lays it out pretty well, IMO. I visit shops who will not accept my carry permit because the address on it does not match the address on my driver's license. Naturally I advised the Indiana States Police of my address change when the one on my permit was no longer valid - and received no response. I guess I should mention it again and see if I get any more action than the last time.

Checked this morning on the TDPS website and read the rules and regulations. By all accounts you must have residency in Texas to obtain one. Even a non resident can obtain one with proof of residency.
That didn't answer my question though. I continue on to change of address and I will have 30 days to notify them. Well just for giggles I tap the link to change address. Put in DL & phone # and my info pops right up. Where are you moving to. So I fill in the new address and in the state section is a drop down of states (how convenient is that). Fill it all out go to next page to verify all information is correct, hit next and now I am at the payment page. At this point I back out because when I renewed last year I received my new card in about 2 weeks (we are 7 weeks from move date). So it looks like it will change my address to Wyoming but time will tell the story.

This. You need to get a Wyo ccw permit asap when you move. Save yourself a lot of potential problems, plus it'll give you the "shortcut" when purchasing in your new home state,

You might also look into two apps I refer to regularly: CCW and Legal Heat. Both are good resources for up to the minute law changes and reciprocity issues. Recommended.

It's my understanding that in states that waive background checks for license holders, the purchaser must be a resident of the state in which the gun is being purchased and the license must be issued by that state.

You have to have a Wyoming permit to bypass the background check.

Wyoming has constitutional carry. You don't need a permit to carry concealed or open.

If it were me, I would get a Wyoming permit when you get here.

When I moved to GA from PA (2022) - I spoke with my County Sheriff in PA - he told me that as soon as I became a resident of GA (e.g. was issued my driver's license) my PA CCW was no longer valid so essentially, as i did not have a valid CCW from the time I became a resident of GA until I got my GA CCW.

Not hard but there are procedures that have to be carefully followed and it takes about three months to get the new one. Cost is $64 to the State and the Sheriffs Office has an additional fee. Just get the Wyoming permit process underway as soon as you get here and save yourself a lot of headaches. What town are you moving to?

Reciprocity is what the arresting officer says it is. That's known as a "say so" law. Quite popular in NJ, NY, MA. CA, MD and many cities.
These states have convoluted gun laws that keep changing to follow Supreme Court Decisions without actually following the court decision.
The politicians rewrite the old law for appearance to comply, with no real intention to do so.

AZ supposedly offers non resident permits. Go the AZ site and see what the requirements are, to include training. AZ doesn't put an address on your permit, but refers the address on your state issued drivers license or ID card. That means AZ must have your current address information in their records. In WY, if you have to take their class, so what. In my state, I could have bypassed the class if I provided proof, including letters from my former agency chain of command, that I was a trained, retired LEO. I chose to take the class as LE training doesn't always cover CCW laws that civilians must adhere to.

Have put a lot more effort in this to research the variables.
Will notify TDS of address change upon move and get replacement.
After I meet the 6 month residency requirement for Wyoming I will take Wyoming permit course there and all should be good to go.
Then should have two CC cards/ID's to carry around.

Spot on. States that require training almost always include in the training a segment on the laws pertaining to the use of deadly force in that particular state. Its cheap insurance to take the class.

Too many retired for former LEOs fail to grasp that they are no longer LEOs and the old rules as to what constitutes a good shoot just don't apply

Most of the time, you will be well served by having a permit from your state of residence. In addition to my LEOSA quals, I have some non-resident permits; IMHO, the two most valuable are Florida and Utah.

Since every state is different in this regard, good on you for doing your research. Basically, if you have a "resident" license and are no longer a resident, it is not valid. Many states have both a resident and non-resident license. So, IMHO, once you become a Wyoming resident, the Texas license is no longer valid.
