I have a 619 and I'm thinking about making it a snubby. I can get a 2.5" barrel and I know I'll need a gunsmith, but is there somewhere to get a shorter ejector rod. I checked Brownells and didn't find one. Anyone know where to get one, and am I thinking of everything to do this?

Generally speaking, changing to a shorter (or just different) barrel, especially if the ejector rod assembly needs to be changed also is not financially feasible. You're better off in the long run to sell the gun you have and buy the one you want.

I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear but it's almost invariably true.

Is the ejector, that much shorter? Perhaps the 'smith can just shorten the ejector. I changed the barrel on an 8 3/8" M0 27 to 5" and the 'smith just used the original ejector with some adjustment.

I'm pretty sure your 619 is a K-frame, not an L-frame. You need to be sure before you order barrels, ejector rods or other parts.

The 619 is an L frame, stainless, and I think fixed sight, 7 shot revolver that was out for a few years, maybe ... 5? I suspect that the MUCH bigger problem with this project is that this revolver has a 2 piece barrel/shroud system. I am not sure the frame will be backward compatible with a one piece barrel, and you have to know for certain before you start or you will have a problem. Also, IIRC, S&W does not sell the jigs needed to swap the 2 piece system - I saw something about this in a Gunsmithing column some time back (maybe Alex Hamilton in American Handgunner).

Something tells me that the "A" answer is to sell this revolver and find something else that meets your goals as it is.

If it is what you want to do, then it is what you want to do.

You probably already know, like has been pointed out, that it is not the cheapest route to go to get a 7 shot snub nose. However a snubby 619 would be unique.

There is almost no gunsmithing project that can not be achieved with a big enough pile of cash.

I am surprised that Brownells does not have ejector rods, center pins and center springs for snub nosed L-frames in stock. Give them time they will be back in stock.

I have found 2.5" barrels on GB, as well as the 3" ones too. I figured it would be cheaper to do rather than buy a new revolver. This probably is not true as is the case with most such things. Thank you for your time all of you

I'm a nerd. I have been called "Rainman" in court by counsel and the Court. That said, I'm not up to the level of knowledge of the folks here who can ID an old M&P within a couple years of production by the subtle signs.

Well neither gun is available any longer, maybe it was the numbering system that did it in
