Barrel compatibility question

Is the threaded shank of the N frame barrels and the threaded shank of L frame barrels the same size?

No. The N frame barrels are bigger.

All 4 have the same thread pitch, but the OD gets bigger with each frame size increase. Going off memory... 36 tpi x .500 for i,j, 36x .540 for K, 36x 560 ish for L and 36x .670 for N.
For one-off customs with a lot of work, you can machine a larger frame barrel down to fit a smaller frame.

Side question: Are current k frame barrels compatible with older frames still? Say 70's to 80's.
