Will a 1980-1988 L frame barrel fit a 1960's K frame frame?
Are the threads the same? Any issues using a non pinned barrel in a frame that can take a pin?
L frame threads are .562-36 and K frames are .540-36. Even if machinist turned off the L frame threads and thread to .540-36, the ejector rod would not align with the barrel lug perfectly. Plus, it might rub on the barrel flat. Those issues could all be adjusted somewhat. Oh, yea, you would need to machine a flat on barrel extension so the yoke cleared as is necessary on all K frames.
The pin no pin deal is a nothing. A no pin barrel would just need a groove filed in the proper place for the pin like the one on pinned barrels. Pin barrels work in no pinned frames. The pin actually doesn't do much as the groove is a loose fit. Ether type need to tighten up correctly.
Be way easier to fit a the proper frame size barrel, but anything is possible with enough effort or cash
But here is a Python barrel that had .562 threads mounted on a K frame. Slot for ejector rod had to be opened up and a ball detent installed

Don't get me wrong. You could mount an L frame barrel on a K frame. I don't think it would be any harder than mounting a Python barrel on one. As Python barrels are probably harder to come by than L frame barrels it would probably end up costing less in the long haul.
My point was none of them are just going to thread in and work.
