A good friend asked me for a 'favor': get his recently acquired Buell motorcycle running. I said NO..no motorcycle repairs.

I'm old..and don't like working on them as they are too low to the floor and I sold my bike lift years ago.

He works part time at a local gun shop.He knows I have a soft spot for S&Ws.

Shows me picture of a 422 they took in trade recently. Hmm..

"Bike just needs the carb cleaned..been sitting for 7 years"

I certainly don't 'need' another 422..but it's an early Springfield,Ma built one with wood grips,6" barrel and adjustable sight. Looks to be well kept. Hmm..

3 hrs of labor..(flush tank..replace fuel lines, clean carb new plugs) and $75 worth of parts...and we have a deal.

The bike spit a dozen smoking acorns out the muffler when I fired it up. I rode it for a few days. Strange bikes. Nice gun. Got a nice pen too.

Good deal.. :)

Barter can be a great thing as long as both people recognize and accept what the other person is trading. The Buell isn't a bike just anybody knows how to work on... but if he got it right, and got the 422 at a decent price, you probably both came out ahead. The 422 is "a little off the beaten path" in the world of S&W, but certainly a gun worth having. I'd say you both did pretty well for yourselves. :)

I'd be happy to give a couple hours of effort for a free gun, especially a nice looking .22 pistol!
