Guys what's a good basic set of screw drivers to buy for Smiths? No gunsmithing just tightening external screws etc.

Any direction appreciated.

Thanks-

I bought the brownell's master set with the Law Enforcement and stubby handle many many years ago and have used it on many items others than of course guns. A lifetime investment that is 100% warranted for life. IMHO their set is even better than Snap-on's .

Forster red handle. I'd highly recommend them and not a magnetic set. The tips have play in them and they stick to things you usually don't want them to stick to!

I have a Chapman gunsmith set. It's a little beyond a basic set, and the quality is excellent. Certainly not the least expensive. One of the things I like about it is that that some of the bits are a slightly softer steel. The bit will deform before it mangles a stubborn screw. Replacement bits are very reasonably priced, so I keep a few extras of those used the most.

While you are ordering one of the Brownell's sets...
don't get the smallest one they make (4 bits) ...
Go ahead and get a big one that has slotted , philips , torx , hex and whatever new types are out there .
For years I bought small sets...Then Brownells had a sale on a Wheeler Professional Gunsmithing set with 89 pieces...Sweet ! I can now unscrew anything and it's in one nice neat package I can usually find .
Wish I had bought a large set years ago .
Buying Gunsmithing drivers before buggering up gun slots is a great move ... ATTABOY !

If it's just for external screws, Grace makes decent wooden handle drivers.

I have had lots of sets over the years from the cheapo old school gun name branded chinese bit sets, Chapman, Forster, and Grace.

The Grace are my go to for most everything. They are an American made quality product and I like the large wooden handles. I have more than one set of the Grace tools. I have been happy with every single Grace product I own.

I have the Brownells big set and have broke bits but get them replaced. I have even had to order a new box for the set, as the old one finally wore out from so many years and use. Many years ago I ordered the S&W set of bits and keep them separately packaged in the big box. The bits are duplicated with those in the box, but easily removed for carrying with me.

I have a Grace wooden handled set as well as the Brownells and while the Grace set it ok, it is not nearly as high quality or precise as the Magnabit set from Brownells. Just my honest opinion,

Thanks guys great info. as usual!- I will order the Brownell's basic short handled set I think.

Appreciate the help!
That will do for a start ... I bet money that in no time you will be buying a larger set ... once you start tinkering with guns ... it's like kissing pretty girls ... you can't do it enough !
