Bass Pro is making an offer to buy Cabelas
Google to find link
What a shame if it happens, I can deal with Cabelas for used firearms and trade in's .Find that bass Pro doesn't have used guns and are hard to deal with . What are your experiences with both companies

My bass pro has a separate room for the experienced goods.Nothing inexpensive in those used guns though! I've seen some nice $30k double rifles in there [emoji1]

BassPro is closer to me but I'll only use them for cleaning supplies or odds and ends.I did use them twice when I bought my Henry rifles.Cabela's is quite a distance from me so unless they have something interesting in their gun library I don't go there.

I find it interesting that BassPro would buy Cabela's with Cabela's just building two new stores in Colorado.

The Cabelas store is about a mile from me, has been there about 8 yrs, and employees tell me their store has the #1 sales record for in the chain the last couple years. I should know this since it's in my town (I don't know) but I'll bet any tax breaks they got for building in town are just about used up. The place is immense and the one and a half floors open to the roof design has to cost a ton of money to heat and cool. Total overhead has got to be mind boggling. I'm in there once or twice a week and rarely is there a crowd. Bass Pro and Gander Mtn. are 20 mins. away. This area can't support that many Outdoor related stores. It's sad that our economy is so dependent on retail sales. I think the next couple years will be make or break for many retailers and those that are left will merge.

Personally prefer Cabelas, have done business with them since they were only in Sydney and by mail order. IMHO both companies have highly diluted their brand cache by building so many stores. Cabelas in Sidney and Bass Pro in Springfield used to be a destination trip.. Not any more with so many of them.

one thing for is that if this happens there are going to be a lot of people out of jobs that wasn't their fault. It probably won't affect many stores west of the Mississippi because there ain't as many Bass Pro stores. east of the river there each companies stores almost on top of each other is another matter.

I like walking around both when I travel to other states.
Between Gander, Cabelas, & Bass Pro, I don't know many who can afford their prices. Most people I know buy small ticket items at those places if anything, and enjoy just walking around. Almost like the mall, but better atmosphere. :)

It's fun to walk around both and touch things. Rarely any good deals. Scheels's will take returned guns if you don't like it or it's defective. And within reason, They will also price match local and online dealers.

Used to deal mail order with Cabelas, reasonable prices for good
quality items. Now won't deal there or the other big box outfits.
Wouldn't bother me if they all went belly up. Will give all my
business to LGSs. Seems like the young crowd with the Mall
mentality are their best customers.

Cabellas just opened in my community. Bass Pro Shop has purchased property one exit South of Cabellas and has had a sign up for two years indicating a relocation from the county south of us.
BPS has delayed construction and now I can understand why.

We have both here and I prefer Cabelas for shooting sports. They have better prices and selection of ammo. I prefer BPS for apparel though. Cabelas clothing is good quality but expensive.

Not a big hunting clothing buyer. Still have stuff I use with made in USA labels in it. When I was in BR a few weeks back, I tried to buy some wax at Cabellas to re proof my old hunting coat and the young guy kept trying to get me to buy a $400 gortex camo jacket-said the waxed coats were old technology and not very good. :rolleyes I told him that I WAS old technology
Finally found my wax at Lafayette Shooters-messy for sure buy $20 for two tins of was every couple of years or so sure beats buying a $400 jacket-For those who are wondering, the old waxed jacket is probably 20 years old and I think I paid $175 for it.

Bass pro is 8 miles closer to me, but its usually worth my time to drive the extra miles; components and ammo are easily 10-15% higher at Bass Pro. I remember when Dick's bought Galyans. Some really nice sporting good stores(Galyans) turned into sporting good K Marts. Hope this rumor of a Bass Pro buyout of Cabelas is just a rumor.
