I saw this sent to me earlier tonight.Bass Pro Gansiville had a male shoot him self in store. Not a whole lot of details other than pistol was in persons pocket when fired and shot . The news calling it an accident. They did not say what part of store this happened in. Also not hearing the GUN JUST WENT OFF THING . We are about half hour from there. I avoid all Bass Pros stores use to buy allot of rods reels back in day from cataloge. 90s but when they built stores and filled more than one with real rude help I was forever done

I don't go there because I like salespeople, I go there because they have what I want. I'm looking for powder, not a date.
Not looking for a date I guess you maybe confused with business vs dates . That could be a whole set of problems for you ouch

Never cared for Bass Pro. Never had a bad experience, they just never had anything I wanted/needed whenever I was in there. Preferred Cabela's. Always plenty of helpful staff, they usually had what I was looking for. Now that they're one and the same, will that change? Not so far, at least not the store I frequent.

Haven't had much use for Bass Pro since my wife was told "This is the men's part of the store" when she asked to see a .22 pistol she was interested in. After a few choice words that fit very well into "the men's part" of the store, she went straight to a LGS about two miles away. After about an hour of the salesman showing her every .22 pistol they had, having her hold them, cycle them, remove and reinsert mags, etc. she bought the one she originally wanted to look at, but thoroughly convinced it was the right one for her!!

ETA - Even though she had shot several of my handguns, that .22 was her first. Thanks to that LGS salesman's interest and concern she now owns...

The original Walther P-22
S&W stainless .22 revolver
Bersa Thunder .380
ATA 1911 .45

.....and shoots them all very well!![emoji56]

We have a Cabela's here in our version of Gainesville - I think Cab's is now roughly equal to Bass Pro. The store here tends to hire fairly knowledgeable folks in the Gun Dept. I would drive out there more often if it wasn't for their stupid trigger-lock BS. I have a CC permit but wouldn't carry at Cab's or BP. The only store I carry in around here is Wally World because of the neighborhood and numerous panhandlers out front.

try the Gander off I-75 in Ocala - They have had powder every time i went in there; even some 8# jugs reasonably priced.

I use to shop cabela’s for outdoor clothing, don’t bother going there anymore. I can buy the same stuff at Walmart. Never bought a gun there. Their prices are outside of my parameters.

You choose when and where to carry based on perceived threat?

I wasn't aware Gander still existed, but Ocala is too far to go for powder anyhow. The one nearest me (WPB) closed. Their prices were out of sight.

Regardless of where it happens, it is what happens when untrained people carry guns.

The man accidentally shot himself at the Celebration Pointe Bass Pro Shop in Gainesville yesterday evening.

Accidentally. No evil intent. Poor firearms discipline on the anonymous gun owner's part. No one else injured. No panic followed. No comment from Bass Pro. Oh, and "law enforcement is investigating further." Nothing else to see here, folks.

It should read negligently shot himself. There are very, very few gun accidents but a ton of negligence going on.

Yep got to be careful with those pocket guns. A gun in a pocket should always be alone in that pocket. Then there is only one reason to put my hand in that pocket.

It reopened as Gander Outdoors in Ocala and is owned by the same guy that owns Camping World.

I Stay Out Of Old Vans Now !!!

I don't see what some dunsel shooting himself has to do with bass pro or any other business.

Shooting one's self with one's own pocket pistol, is about like well,
cutting or stabbing yourself with your own pocket knife.

**** happens all the time.....I saw a veteran detective shoot himself in
the foot in an old van as we were preparing to serve a search warrant.

He was also, a marine, a SF guy and firearms instructor....Complacency can cause accidents.

We all need to be mindful & careful out there.

.

I wondering why some dufus shooting himself has anything to do with Bass pro.
