BATFE ID Requirements Change?

OK, I'm from Iowa, home to the most farmers and "good old boys" in the country. Our state issued drivers licenses have ALWAYS had our FULL LEGAL NAME on them. Are there states out there that just use an initial for the middle name? Inquiring minds want to know!
My Maine drivers license has my middle initial only.

QUOTE=AJ;141380914]My name is A. John Glaser III. The first four years I was in the Corps. They could not understand having an initial for a first name. So I was John A. Glaser III. Upon my reenlistment I had enough rank for the admin chief to really listen to me and he finally straightened it out.[/QUOTE]

General H Norman Schwarzkopf[ was his full name. I do not remember there being much trouble With a H as a first name hurting his career!

His fathers name was Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf the first superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. He is best known for his involvement in the Lindbergh kidnapping ..

Okay, I just went to the ATF websites FAQ page concerning ID on the ATF Form 4473. It says that the transferee must provide a photo ID with the transferee's FULL LEGAL NAME. Supplemental documents can be used to verify the FULL LEGAL NAME but must be issued by a government agency! This is ********. There is no indication of when this change took place.

I'm not sure if it's a change in the rules or just increased enforcement. Not that it matters.

Oklahoma just puts a middle initial on driver's licenses, handgun licenses, security guard licenses, hunting licenses, and police certification cards. My DD FORM 2 (RETIRED) US ARMY IDENTIFICATION CARD JUST HAS MY MIDDLE INITIAL IN THE BLOCK BELOW MY RANK AND SIGNATURE!

Sorry. Didn't mean to shout. I did find a document that has my FULL LEGAL NAME AND ADDRESS. So, tomorrow I will go back to academy with all my photo IDs and my wife's DEATH CERTIFICATE! Sorry about shouting again.

Sent with some arcane communications device.

Well I just went and looked and my NY state drivers Linc has only the middle initial, Federal passport has only a middle initial and my NY state pistol permit (first issued early 1970s) has only a middle initial.

A couple years back I had to go back (after several calls) to the WalMart when I put St Cloud instead of Saint Cloud on a 4473. Recently I bought a Handgun from Academy. It took 2 1/2 hours for approval because I put my middle initial on the E4473 and my DL has nothing. Academy ain't the problem. Joe

Many, many moons ago the pawn shop I worked at got audited. The auditor found oneform where the person used an abbreviation instead of spelling the full word (I think it was a middle name, or part of the address) the shop got dinged and the owner had to track the purchaser down (3 hour drive away), talk to him, take the form to him and have it corrected and initialed.

I have never, ever seen a 4473,filled out by hand, where an abbreviation was acceptable.

IA DL has full middle name listed.
My DD2 (Retired AF) also has full middle name listed. Guessing the DD2 is based on information loaded in MILPDS when new ID's are issued. IRRC my old mil ID had my full middle name listed when I was still active.

Hmmm. that could be a problem for me. Middle name is "W" period. Passport, SS card, DL, FAA, DD etc.Don't know why but I'm 4th generation fathers side with the initial W.
I just check section B of 4473 and it says if initial only include "IO."
Who knows with the ATF.
