Hello, Has anyone tried firing BB/CB caps in S&W Mo.1 2nd issue?
I'd like to fire it but would like to hear what others might think.
It's in good shape not loose at all. Thanks for your input.
Jim

Ive never done it, but I know some who have with no ill effects. I think if it were me , Id probably leave well enough alone. Its a very old gun with weak metal, id just keep it for what it is, a piece of history.

Yes, you can fire those caps in any Model One, in good condition, as well as the modern sub-sonic .22 shorts. At least I never encountered any problems doing that with good condition guns, but that's not a guarantee you won't. Accuracy is not part of the exercise, but you can probably hit a basketball at ten feet most of the time, if you are a good shot. I think Mark Twain was quoted once as saying that "If anyone ever shot him with one of those S&Ws Model Ones, and he found out about it, he would not be happy." - or something to that effect! Ed.

I've shot them in mine with no ill effects.

I've run them through a second model, 2 third models and a ladysmith. They are basically a primer and a bullet without powder. All were amazingly accurate at 5-7 yards! (but they probably wouldn't penetrate a cotton shirt!)
Whatever you do, don't ever use modern hi-speed shorts. It will cost you a lot of money.

I have never used BB caps, but I use CCI CB's in my Henry .22 to shoot turtles on my pond. They are slow enough that they hit the water an go in, rather than glance off. Tried shorts one time and they seem to be multi times more powerful than CB,s. I heard the bullet whap against my metal barn.

2 kinds of Shorts: High Speed and Target. High speeds are 1000-1200fps and the Targets run 600-800fps. Targets are used in Rapid fire, to include the Olympics rapid fire course and High Speeds are used by folks that wished they were shooting 22LR!
Velocities are on the box.
