BEAR thread karma, we have WINNERS!

Don't be bashful, sign up!

As popular as bear threads have been, I can't believe there isn't more interest in the past history of actual bear encounters.

That's what we have here, first person history of actual encounters. I can't promise no fiction because a windy story is bound to show up every now & again.

Put your name down, If you don't play, you can't win!

Bear joke for karma

Please put my name in the hat, also. I'll pay my way with a cute bear joke.

In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear confrontations, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and be alert for bears while in the field. ...We advise that outdoorsmen wear small bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them, and to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter....

It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain lots of berries and fur. Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in it and smell like pepper.

So let me tell about those books. I moved to Alaska in the mid 70s. My standard rifle was a 7mm mag that seemed to kill caribou and moose just fine. The first few years I happily hunted with that rifle all over. When those books came out my hunting partner bought them and we read them a few weeks before hunting season.

After reading the stories, l found Sako 375 H&Hs on sale and three of our group ordered the 375s. I packed that Sako most of the time after that. I only recently replaced it with a Marlin Guide Gun for summer use.

If you live in big bear country, don't read them. You will never leave your house again.

P.S. I read them so I'm not entering. Thanks.
